Rocky Mountain

Wow! Brings Back Memories.
I have been looking for this western for quite a while. My wife's cousin, Rush Williams, was one of the Confederate soldiers and we got to visit with him about the movie a while back. I first saw this movie after school years ago and really loved the cavalry charges, filling my head with fantasies. Slim Pickens made one of his first movies on Rocky Mountain, and of course I viewed Errol Flynn as one of my childhood heroes... from a dashing swordsman to cavalry officer, he was my hero. I wish we had more movies like this one!

Haunting Western
I don't normally review movies but this one has stayed with me since I was a child. SPOILER ALERT: The final scene where the small band of confederates charge into the mass of Indians made a lifelong impression on me. It was a long time between viewings and all I could remember was the name, Rocky Mountain. When I recently looked it up online I was able to purchase and watch it again after perhaps 60 years. It was Errol Flynn's last western. The story, plot, acting and scenery were all just fine. Nothing extraordinary for a black and white film, but just fine. It was the final charge that made this movie so memorable and gripped an impressionable young child. I'm glad to have seen it once (or more times) again!John E. WELL WORTH THE WATCH
... I remember this film from when I was a child (I'm 70 now...) Very low budget...but the final product was a sterling product for the day. Flynn aged hard and fast...shows in too many of his later films, but in this one they are not trying to still show him as wild and free. His character is far more careworn... and far more mature and responsible than in...say... "They Died With Their Boots On" No romance beyond his years... Dignified role worthy of Flynn. First film exposure that I've seen for "Slim" Pickens when he was still slim. Rides and shoots like a true frontiersman.....A touch sentimental re "The Lost Cause." Just as well the Confederates lost...but just as well that we remember that they were not "traitors", but rebels... Lincoln knew that... just as he knew that all our Founding Fathers had been rebels. We are not the Balkans or Afghanistan...we do not wave the "bloody shirt" for generations. Raiding parties do not cross the Kansas/Missouri state line these days... only college basketball teams.-Yankee Papa-

errol Flynn is near to his very best in this out door classic with some of the best action to be found in a western shot superbly in black and white its been forgotten after its release in 1950 until warner bros released it on dvd in recent years to bad director William keiley and starr errol Flynn went to their graves not knowing what a great western they left with us hope it gets a blu ray release soon and later a colorized version in the mix

Duty and honor.
A great movie about a troopers honor and sacrifice in time of war.Not politically correct by today's standard this film is more about the moral values have than the American Civil War.What is wrong and what is right and the men who act on the difference.
