Great old fashioned peas.
Supermarkets no longer sell these sort of peas, I was getting ready to make my years supply of home made vegetables soup, and the super market box’s of peas with the soda tablet are too fat and they don’t take the amount of cooking they need to make soup. So I decided to check if Amazon did and was delight to buy them for my soup. Made the soup and was so pleased with it and the peas I reordered them. Grew up in Ireland and often went to the hot pea shop for a bowl of peas with salt and vinegar, I soaked the next bag overnight then froze them, now when I fancy it I can quickly make my own bowl of hot peas.

I made the best mushy peas with these dried peas
I made the best mushy peas with these dried marrowfat peas. It’s not a quick recipe but it is so worth it. There are no cooking instructions on the pack so I had to do a little research, but if I can make mushy peas then anyone can.The pack contains 400g so I weighed out 100g and soaked them in a bowl overnight with ¾ teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. The peas had doubled in size overnight and I popped them in a sieve and rinsed a few times with cold water. I then added 250ml water and boiled them until they were the consistency I required. I did this in the microwave and it was a very steamy and long process, so I would do this on the hob next time as that’s supposed to take 30 minutes which is pretty much how long it took me in the microwave in lots of short bursts. The pack is quite expensive, priced at £5.49 (at the time of review), however, this makes four lots of mushy peas and the 100g was more than enough for two people.

Very fibrous.
I felt like marrowfat pea soup so bought these. They took an extraordinary long time to cook (even with the addition of bicarbonate) and after blitzing still seemed very fibrous.Going back to split pea soup.

Food item yet could not see best before date
These had such poor label on the front it had no best before date. I'm not happy to use them without this information.
