Sulwhasoo UV Daily Cream: Broad Spectrum SPF 40, Hydrates, Protects from UV Rays, No White Cast

I recently received Sulwhasoo UV Daily Cream and I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with this product. I love Sulwahsoo products but this sunscreen irritated my eyes. This sunscreen left my face super oily all day and I have combo/mostly dry skin. I had to return.

This is a lovely, compact bottle of facial sunscreen that fits nicely in a purse or backpack to have convenient wherever you go. However, after using and comparing it to others I have and have tried, I'm not super enthusiastic about it.It goes on a bit thickly, like facial sunscreens often do, and I assume is important for effective coverage. But unlike other high quality products I've tried, this sunscreen makes my face very shiny as a result. It doesn't feel particularly oily, more like well moisturized, but the shininess is persistent. I typically don't wear makeup if I'm not doing anything fancy or special, but I feel compelled to put on some concealer if I'm going anywhere at all after using this sunscreen. I have two other facial sunscreens I like that I have used recently that don't cause anywhere near this level of residual shininess.In that regard, it more strongly resembles the basic drugstore brand of facial sunscreen I have bought in the past. I compared the ingredients, and the active ingredients are nearly identical, though this sunscreen contains several beneficial skincare ingredients lacking in the drugstore brand. Both brands contain silicones, which can irritate sensitive skin. The drugstore brand currently costs $3.66 per ounce, while this one is at $34.13 per ounce. For 10x the price, I expect something much better. While this product does contain ginseng, honey, and other ingredients that I don't recognize on sight, but presume are helpful additions (several root extracts, Nelumbo Nucifera Flower Extract, etc.), they are common in other serums and moisturizers I have used. If your skincare routine doesn't include those other products, that is possibly a reason you might want to splurge on this one, but for my purposes, I will stick with other products I like better.

This sunscreen doesn't have a white cast, because it is a chemical sunscreen and doesn't contain zinc. It goes on smoothly and absorbs well. I love the light gingery smell. I find it moisturizing for my normal but "mature" skin. Although it doesn't feel oily, it leaves a bit of shine. As far as protection goes, it keeps my face safe for 1-2 hours in the Florida sun.The ingredients may be a positive or negative depending on where you stand on the issue of reef-safe sunscreen. It doesn't have oxybenzone and octinoxate, but it DOES contain avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate and octocrylene. These chemicals can still cause damage to reefs, so I wouldn't consider it reef friendly. But, these are considered to be effective organic filters and provide a lightweight feel to the product and help it go on clear.
