It works as well as you could hope for
It's a ferro rod. If your looking at this, you know what it is. It works well. It sends a shower of directed sparks as you would expect. This one is a pretty good value IMO. I'm happy with the purchase. I haven't used the tinder rope because I just haven't needed it. But it's handy to know it's there if you need it. I've never blown the whistle. I don't know if it works or not, or how it sounds if it does work. The striker is a substantial metal striker. It's not some flimsy piece of tin. That's a nice touch. Being a big substantial striker, it could have some teeth to help process tinder. But if you are using a ferro rod, you probably already have another way to process tinder. The lanyard is a pretty long strand of para-cord. Although it is twisted and tied making it much shorter. I purchased this ferro rod specifically because of the para-cord lanyard. It is just convenient to have everything contained on a lanyard. I did take the whistle apart to get to the ends of the para-cord so that I could unwrap/untie it. That way I can store another ferro rod on the same lanyard, and also wear it around my neck for convenience.A ferro rod is a MUST HAVE. In a survival situation, your only other recourse is a friction fire, and that is exponentially more difficult. I find that it is easier to start a fire with a ferro rod than it is with a lighter. There are probably a few reasons for this. First, I'm sure that I prepare my tinder better to accept a spark when I'm using a ferro rod. Second, it can be difficult to direct a flame toward a fuel source, especially if it is low to the ground. A ferro rod has no problem showering sparks exactly where you want them, whether it is low to the ground or not. How many times have you burned your thumb trying to light a fire with a lighter? That's not going to happen with a ferro rod.

Really good deal.
Good bundle for the price, very effective, manageable size and weight. Will last quite some time, the sailor matches light well and burn consistent.

Its a fero rod
Large in size and comes in a plastic box to keep things organized. Throws a great spark and works really well. The fire starting cord that is included is a nice touch and has metal rings around it so you can snuff it out once you get your fire going as not to waste the entire thing in one go. My only complaint would be the whistle/ end cap (the orange and black thing at the end of the paracord). Obviously the whistle is not loud and honestly just sucks. Also it comes apart to easily like I understand that you want to be able to access the paracord but at the same time it comes apart and is hard to get back together even when it is put back together correctly. I would have proffered just a simple pinch clip that you can tighten up and down. But it all fairness your buying this for the rod not the paracord.

Perfect, versatile firestarting system
No joke, this system is GREAT! As an experienced user, I can say that I can get fire with any Ferro rod. This one is actually better, though. Creates sparks with less pressure than any other rod I've used, creates more and bigger sparks that last longer than most other rods. But the wicks! BRILLIANT!!!!!! I tried them as is, and it took only a couple of tries for them to light. After they've been lit once and charred the ends, though, they light on the first strike EVERY time! So, use your lighter when you get them, put out the flame and you're ready for the next few hundred fires. The flame from the wicks is much larger than any lighter, and the fuel won't evaporate. This is seriously better than a lighter.

High quality large Ferro rod.
This is a very good quality Ferro rod which is about the correct hardness. Comes with a large tool steel striker that works well and fits the hand well with or with out gloves. Also comes with two sections of 1/4 " waxed jute hemp twine to ignite to help start a fire. Each rope section includes a aluminum tube section to put out the ignited rope after use. It works well.

Good product
The rod is nice and thick and the two ropes are great for catching a spark.
