Before writing my review of this product I need to get this off my chest, because it's important.If you are in pain, you absolutely must consult your GP first.TENS and EMS machines are only an adjunct to pain management. They may give a great deal of help in managing types of pain, but talk to your GP. Have a conversation to find out if TENS/EMS will be suitable and get a referral for some 'hands on' learning. The booklets and leaflets are a useful source of info, but you can't beat a qualified TENS/EMS practitioner for teaching you.TENS works by 'distracting' the pain receptors at the site of the pain. In many instances this does give relief but it's unlikely to be of any use in visceral pain - ie in the internal organs of the body and there are many instances where use of a TENS machine could prove harmful.You'll also need to find out whether TENS, EMS or a combination of both would bring the best result for your condition.So please don't just make an impulse buy. See a suitably qualified health care professional first.OK, lecture over.So, what's in the box?A decent, hard plastic protective case with slide action closures contains:An instruction booklet (detailed) and two useful manuals on using TENS/EMSA professional TENS/EMS combination machine with an integral, rechargeable battery.Cable and plug for recharging.Leads which connect to the electrodes at one end and jack plugs to connect to the machine.Depending on where you need treatment, the electrodes will be attached to your skin, the leads attached to the electrodes, jack plugs in the programmed machine and then the machine turned on for treatment to start.The machine is about the same size as an old Nokia mobile phone, and has a clip attachment so you're free to move around during treatment.I selected this model because I wanted to help my other half who has occasional pain in his lower lumbar and sacro-iliac joints as a result of being knocked off his bike years ago. When he's overdone things, his back flares up and he hates taking painkillers, says they don't work.This TENS machine, in conjunction with the EMS not only helps enormously with the pain of a flare up, but helps the affected muscle spasm to relax. Two or three hour long sessions each day for a couple of days usually sorts him out. Without treatment he would normally be in difficulties for up to a week or longer.I have some experience of using TENS/EMS due to my work in pain management in acute, chronic and palliative care, and consider this model a good piece of kit, hence the five stars.But please, don't just make an impulse buy if you are considering TENS - you really need to find the one that suits your own needs best, and your GP will be the one to help you make the most informed choice.

I found researching which TENS to buy somewhat confusing so I thought I would write this review to clarify some if the issues I was unclear on with regard to this unit and this range. I was looking for a replacement for the TENS machine we have had for over 30 years. We are committed TENS uses and I will not dwell on the value of the therapy. That you should research separately taking your own specific needs into account.We could not be more happy with this unit. The current model is called The Premier 'Combo' Plus model EM6300a. It has a total of 24 pre programmed settings for TENS and EMS therapy plus the normal manual settings. The manual settings have a timer as do many of the installed pre-programmes. We found the installed programmes excellent and very useful.The machine comes with a rechargeable battery installed and a separate USB charger. These are options from other sellers. The machine will operate from the USB supply, so if the battery runs down you do not need to wait for it to recharge before using. There is an indicator to let you know when the battery is low and as well red/green led to tell you that the battery is charging and when it is fully charged. A full charge takes about 2 hours from flat.The user interface is clearly set out and easy to understand. It comes with both a quick setup guide (very good) and a comprehensive manual that is for the whole range that others have commented on as confusing. Once charged I was using the machine in a few minutes. When turned on the last programme used comes up but with the intensity at zero. No unexpected surprises. The belt clip is sturdy and a good size which is handy as the unit may be too thick to fit in some pockets. That said the unit is compact and fits easily in your hand for operating. The cables for the electrodes are good quality and use professional standard protected contact connectors as opposed to the 3.5mm 'headphone' style connectors found on lessor units. There is a useful pause function as well as a lock so settings do not get accidentally changed.The seller is really excellent. The customer service experience we had could not be bettered. So even if you are leaning to another device, do consider one from this supplier.
