FilofaxA4 Refillable Notebook - Black

This is a new favourite. About a year ago I converted from "Black and Red" hardback notebooks to the Atoma brand, which is a disk-bound system that does similar things as this Filofax "refillable Notebook" line. Mostly, as a writer, I was attracted by being able to reorganize my notes and the high quality paper (I write with fountain pens). I have dozens of very nice notebooks at home that I abandoned a quarter of the way in, but I've now switched to Atoma and this Filofax line.I needed something really flexible that allows me to make all kinds of notes for all kinds of projects, something that lends itself well to fountain pens, and something that's also very portable. Being able to file individual sheets later without having to type them up/scan/re-write also helps (and no, I'm not a fan of two- or four-hole binders).The black A4 refillable folder I got is now my constant companion during a normal week. The cover material feels good to the touch and looks good, and the elastic strap holds it all nicely and tidily together. Folding the cover all the way back gives you a stable surface to write on - very useful for lectures or presentations. Otherwise, the cover does have a bit of flex - a good compromise between weight/bulk and stability, in my view.I was quite impressed with the paper - at 100mg it's noticeable thicker and heavier than the sheets you encounter elsewhere, and it holds up really well to my fountain pens. Admittedly, the refills aren't cheap, but I find myself reaching for this notebook over the others (any number of hardbound ones, Black'n Red, Oxford...). I'm now using this and my Atoma, but in contrast to the Atoma brand, I can get refills for this more easily (on Amazon, whereas Atoma is only carried by specialists).So this has

Love, love, love!I’ve got the mini & the A5 sizes of this range so knew I’d love this one too. And it doesn’t disappoint.I love that you can fold the front cover back and rest it flat on your desk or table.The paper quality is excellent. I use gel pens & they don’t bleed or show through on the reverse side.The tabs make organising my notes a breeze & being able to move pages between sections means my notebook is neat & easy to use.I just wish they’d come up with the coloured papers & other designs they have for the other sizes.Bottom line - have just ordered one for my son! Yes, I’ll be buying more in the future.

This is an excellent notebook in so many ways. Providing you don't over-fill the binder the pages remain completely flat and turn easily. They are held securely by the rings and yet it's easy to remove pages from the notebook or reposition them. The ruled paper supplied is of good quality and is pleasant to write on in pencil and ink.I also bought the matching paper punch so that I can add photocopied or laser-printed pages to my notebook and despite several negative reviews for that punch it has worked very well for me and gives clean holes in 90 or 100g paper that perfectly match the supplied Filofax paper.My one gripe is about the notebook cover. It looks and feels like cheap plastic wrapped over flimsy cardboard, which it probably is. If something presses into the cover in my bag it becomes dented. I'm worried that it won't survive long with normal daily use. I wish there was an option to buy the same A4 notebook but with a more hardwearing, more rigid, cover. I still have an original Filofax personal organiser with a leather cover from the 1980s and it looks as pristine as the day I bought it despite being over 30 years old. Filofax do offer a leather A4 folio but it's too bulky for my purposes. If they offered this A4 notebook with a better cover they would have an absolute winner.

I bought this in the aqua colour and love it. The pages will fall out if you overfill it to start with, especially if you bend the spine and turn. I just took out half the pages and once the cover has been used a few more times the pages turn well and you can add more in. The only slight criticism I have is that it is unlikely to hold more than the pages it originally comes with, there is no room for adding extras, so don't be too quick to buy the refill which I did as you are only going to need refill pages as you discard the others.

Bought as a gift for someone starting a new teaching job. Really classy - he takes it everywhere apparently! Looks great in meetings.

I love these notebooks-its so wonderful being able to move pages of notes and organise my thoughts. These are probably a bit more expensive than I would normally pay for a notebook, but for the ability to organise my notes freely I feel its worth the extra pennies.

Could not live this folder more. I also purchased other colours in the range. The quality speaks for itself. You get what you pay for. These are a little costly but I see these lasting me years. They are so easy to use, to slot in and out the paperwork of your choice and the rules paper that comes with it is exceptionally good quality too.

I have been using the Filofax A5 notebooks for a while, but decided to invest in one of the A4 notebooks as I have decided to start learning a new language. Once I was able to buy the Filofax notebook stapler, I was able to add learning materials that I had printed off into my A4 notebook. The notebook is like a binder, but so much more practical and versatile! Would highly recommend this notebook.
