I bought this book to use as a journal and for artsy stuff when in the mood. The journal is a pleasure to use, I'm looking forward to filling it up and very interested to see how it ages. The book has many excellent qualities:* Leather cover is a nice and well-thought out thickness - it feels substantial but not so thick that folding would be cumbersome.* Intricacy of the embossed patterns are complementary, and the level of detail within the design is superb.* Wrap-around tie and exposed/external cross stitches are other very nice features and add to the character of the book.* Leather smell is pleasant but not strong (no goat skin or strong chemicals here!) and so far absolutely no issues of tan transferring to my skin or other surfaces.The only issue I have found - and this is on me as the description is completely accurate and warns on this - the paper is not suitable for fountain pens as the ink bleeds straight through. Strictly pencil and ballpoint which is a shame as I do like to doodle and express through art with a f/p however, what I have been doing, and it actually works well and looks great, is I'll scratch away with my f/p on an artist tile and then glue-stick the tile into a page. Job done and looks like that's what you intended to do all along :-)

Beautiful and special hand made book.

This book is absolutely gorgeous. It looks, smells and feels like real leather and I'm in love with he little faults you find in the embossing because they show it was hand made. It's bound with leather cord, the same kind that closes it, and the cover extends around the exposed pages to protect them.The paper is definitely rough and handmade but it adds to the charm of it I think, and there were far more pages than I was expecting. It doesn't take pencil too well, so if you want this for a classy sketchbook, then it's not going to work for that unless you're drawing in ink. So far I've tested it with pencil, biro, ink pen, fine liner and water colour. It took the water colour well, the pages don't crinkle from the moisture but there is a little bleed through, putting something behind the page you're working on stops it staining the page behind.All in all, I love this book. I love the rustic quality of it and how it looks, and hopefully it will make the perfect gift.

Beautiful journal. Can't beat a good ol' bit of quality handcraftsmanship!Has a really stunning rustic vibe to it. Even the pages have a slightly rough archaic feel.A good all-round quality piece.However, there's a couple of downsides for me:1) You can't use a fountain pen on it as the ink will bleed through the pages. (This is more of a personal gripe though, because I'm just someone who likes to journal with a fountain pen.)2) The journal is not refillable, which is a real shame because there are only 125 pages, so it won't take me long to fill it. I'd rather be able to put a new stack of paper in the leather cover that I have now than be forced to keep rebuying the journal every time it's full.Although this journal is beautifully put together, I won't be buying it again based on the reasons above. Great quality

Olde Worlde leather bound journal with excellent leather tooling work on the cover - very aesthetically pleasing. It has a lovely aroma of leather - like the smell of opening a new jar is to coffee. Chuck it in your saddlebag and off you go ! Cool.Lots of thick parchment like pages, satisfying to the touch as well as being ethically sound, leather wrap-around strap to close it, all give you the sense that this journal is hand made with no evidence of machine work involved.The parchment pages will not be suitable for wet ink but ballpoints, gel pens, pencils etc will be fine.I gave it as a gift and it went down very well as it is unusual. Great value for money. Love it.

This will be a notebook for someone to write special things in, a personal journal for thoughts and poems… I am giving it to a pensive teenage niece

I love it the the paper is firm the binding is secure and the leather work detailed. Well worth the cost and i highly recommended.
