First of all, I disagree with the comments/answers suggesting that this razor is not practical for use and/or somehow the blade is not good enough for regular shaving. My opinion is that this blade quality is as good as any other straight razors in the market for under $200. I have bought this kit a few months ago and have been using it regularly since. The blade holds an edge very well and shaves very smooth. I believe the users who are unhappy with the quality of the blade or its sharpness have not sharpened it correctly. You have to be willing and patient enough to prepare the blade before the first use. However, the stone it comes with is absolutely inadequate to prepare the blade for the first time.You need to use some wet stone or diamond stone with large enough width to prepare the blade. I have used 400 grit to 8000 grit wet stones to prepare the edge followed by stropping it on the strop provided with the kit (with the green compound on the fabric side and finishing with the leather side).Some comments on the blade are below.1. The spine and edge are parallel/level. This is visible in the pictures as the polished surfaces along the spine and edge run the entire length with pretty consistent width. This also means the the blade thickness at the edge is fairly consistent. If they were not leveled enough the blade would be hard to prepare. I could prepare the blade well without any difficulty.2. I am not sure if I have got lucky with the geometry, but, it looks like it is a mass produced blade. So, it is a fair comment that others can expect a similar blade.3. The blade holds edge very well! The first use after stropping was good with couple of microscopic edge defects which did not stop me from having a good shave. The subsequent shaves got progressively better due to repeated stropping on the leather after each shave. After a few months of shaving the edge is very sharp and flawless under a microscope. I believe that the blade is capable of holding a sharp edge for a long time if necessary care is provided. The shaves are pleasantly smooth on my coarse beard hairs even when it is half an inch long.4. For maintenance it needs only stopping after shaving to keep the edge straight.In total, it is a fantastic product for the price. This is despite the fact that the stone provided with it is a joke. If some one is romanticizing about using a conventional straight razor he should know that you need to have a decent set of sharpening stones (costing $30-$40) and with some guidance from internet you can prepare the razor for a satisfactory shave. Or you can send it out to a honing professional for $30. Either way the blade is able to do its job nicely and the brush, stand, soap, bowl, strop, paste combined makes this item a very good choice for straight razor shaving at a low cost.

It arrived ahead of time of the expected arrival date. I was impressed with the classy professional shaving set which was well made. My nephew is happy with it

This is my first straight razor, so I really didn’t know what to expect. I read several product reviews here on Amazon, and many said it wasn’t sharp enough to shave with. I unboxed my razor and proceeded to give myself a shave. The blade was pulling my beard, more than shaving it, and it was painful. Tonight I spent about 45 minutes honing my razor on my 4000/8000/12000 grit stones and then stropping the blade. Result was a blade sharp enough to shave with and no pain. I need to continue working on my technique, but I think I am going to like the straight razor shaving experience.This razor seems to be pretty good quality for the money. I will have to see how it goes over the next several months! I didn’t want to start off with a $200 razor, just in case I didn’t like shaving with a straight razor.

I rarely write reviews, but this one I feel I need to. I bought this and a dovo special. My plan was to use this to practice sharpening so I don't me up the dovo. Everyone says dovo special is the best razor to start on after all. Out of the box this one was shave ready so I was excited to see the dovo. It was nowhere near as sharp as this. I stroped it a few times and shaved with it. It didn't get dull and I have coarse hair. I can't imagine the life of this will be as long as more expensive ones, but the quality it off the box blew me away. I'm contemplating sending the dovo back. Maybe it just needs some work, but for three times the price of this whole kit, I don't think this razor should be better than a dovo.

This set is as aesthetically pleasing as it looks in the picture- so if part of your selection is based on countertop presence, as mine was, then this is worthwhileish.But my husband couldn't get the blade sharp enough with the just the strap, we had to get a sharpening stone. So if there's another set you're looking at, add the price of a stone to this one.If you're really just looking for the best shave- this isn't it.But it is a beautiful set- just likely not something I'd purchase again.

I love the product is what I expected. Shipping took way to long and chips in the soap bowl pretty sure from Amazon/UPS the package was open dirty extra. Great product though.

My husband uses this all the time. Had it for several months now, and he's still very pleased. Great price too!
