Ring Video Doorbell Elite

Love the POE feature, just wish RING had more POE options and brought the price down. It works great.

I am updating my review from below because its not longer valid. I noticed my Ring Elite was updated to firmware version 1.8.21. Now I'm getting full high def video. It now works exactly as advertised. I'll leave the old review just for edification. But as of 8/10/2017, the device works flawless.Old reviewI will start this by saying that I am a Network Engineer. In fact my specialty is Voice/Video over IP. My house has a very elaborate network inside of it that is of better quality than the average business network. I am providing an absolutely ideal network for this device to function within.A previous person complained about the ethernet jack being at the bottom and it being difficult to place this inside the junction box. I personally did notice the same when I installed mine. But I was able to get it in very easily. I certainly wouldnt knock any stars off for that. So why did I only give it two stars? Great question. Well most important is this thing is no where near 1080p. Maybe, just maybe the camera itself has a CCD that can do 1080p, but the stream coming off this unit is of exceptionally poor quality. When reviewed on my computer (or handheld) the video is very washed out and grainy. Being that I work with loads of video over ip products, I would compare this to a Cisco 9971 which runs at 320k using h.264 30fps.Second complaint is that it only rings the indoor chime about 50% of the time. I'm sure someone from Ring would love to say that its my wireless signal thats the problem. Negative. I have a Meraki MR32 sitting about 15 feet away from the chime. My Meraki portal says the signal strength is 28db. Thats more than adequate. I also hadnt mentioned this, but my Ring Elite is hard wired to my Cisco 3750G POE switch. So that is also not a wireless problem.Third complaint is they are not doing anything about firmware updates. I'm currently sitting at 1.7.22. I've seen a 1.8 and a 1.9 firmware come out. I asked tech support and was told that both of these firmwares had problems and had gotten pulled out of production. I'm glad they didnt break my device. But c'mon. When are you going to write a new firmware. I'd like to think that my complaints would be resolved with a new version.I'm giving it two stars because I wouldnt return the device. It rounds out my smart home design, and I dont know of a comparable product that is flush mount and poe. Its no where near worth the $500 price point. I personally think its worth maybe half that. (maybe). I also think the poe injector that is included should be an option buy as to lower the price of the unit. Why did you include a $100 injector if I dont need one. I would have appreciated paying $100 less.If Ring would like to reach out to me, please feel free. Considering I have the perfect test network I'd love to help you resolve your issues. I can offer pcaps and firewall logs to help isolate whatever is wrong. I originally attached a video to my review so you could see the video quality. But Amazon rejected my review.

The only best & reliable RING is the Elite Ring because its has to be hard-wired with a Cat6

Connected it up to my POE switch, easy to install.

I wanted the ring elite since my front door is a double door and the others were just too small looking for the door.I've had to return two of this doorbells so far. The first had internet connection problems and the second had video problems where the picture was pink/gray.Ring sent out a replacement right away and got it within a day or two. The third one has been up and working fine for a few weeks now.**UPDATE** RING really need to get better customer service. Ive had decent service up until yesterday. Their customer service are complete idiots, only try and get out of warrenty work on defective products that aren't even a 6 months old. They need to add a feature to their customer service that allows you to file complents against customer service agents that are incompetent, they lie and say that managers are busy and can't talk then the phone disconnects. Its really hit or miss with their customer service. Really disappointing since their UI for their app is one of the best for being user friendly (especially for older people).They have completely failed with quailty checks with regards to internet connectivity, consistent motion detetion on cameras and customer service. BIG RED FLAGS WHEN IT COMES TO RING PRODUCTS AND GETTING YOUR MONEYS WORTH. Just thought id give a heads up to future buyers.The ring products i have:1. Ring mailbox sensor. ( kinda useless unless you set it up with alexa to push an announcement2. Ring Smart floodlight ( no camera) motions works ok on the device. Always says it has bad internet connection in app bc it not dual band, regardless how close it is to the AP.3. Ring stick up cam 3rd generation and the pros. The 3rd generation speakers and motion sensor are useless with low quailty parts.4. Ring floodlight pros. These have had connectivity issues along with condensation getting between the lense of the camera. They tried to tell me the water issue wastnt warretable and would only give me 25 dollars off my next purchase( i flipped out on the DA) had to ask for a manager multiple time but over an hour later i got them to warrenty a defective device.5. The Doorbell eliet. Atleast they didnt try and "void" the warrenty on this....yet. i hope i can get close to 5 or more years from this. Fingers crossed.Not sure if id stay with ring if this type of crap keeps happening.

Update:We were able to work with Ring and as a result have received a replacement doorbell under warranty because we are long time Ring Protect members. Thank you to Ring for following up and resolving the problem.This is our second Doorbell Elite, the first one was a reconditioned unit bought on Amazon almost two years to the week from when it eventually failed. After spending more than an hour with Support trying to resolve the issue, it was determined that the unit was no longer emitting a Wi-Fi setup network and was preventing us from re-associating it to our account. It was decided that they would send us a replacement device until Support could not authenticate that the device was actually ours, even though I can prove it was bought on Amazon. (Ring is an Amazon company). It appears that the reconditioned device was still associated to the previous owner’s account and as a result Ring could not replace it under warranty. Tech Support said they would continue to work on it and would call me back. No call back. I eventually bought a new unit on Amazon since we really like it, along with our 9 other Ring devices. First issue we’ve had with a Ring product and unfortunately it wasn’t a great experience.
