What can I say about this Amcrest 4K PTZ camera (IP8M-2899EW-AI)? Amcrest as a brand consistently hits the sweet spot. You get good quality hardware, solid software that works reliably, and even pretty decent support when you need it – all at a very reasonable price point compared to some other options out there.Because of this great balance, I find myself recommending the Amcrest brand frequently, and I particularly recommend this specific camera model to many, many people looking for a capable outdoor PTZ solution. The best part? Every person I've recommended it to has been genuinely happy with the product once they get it installed and see it in action. It's just a great all-around performer for the cost. Highly recommended!

Camera arrived dead in the sense that it was unreachable by the User Interphase, Amcrest surveillance pro software or the IP set software. The NVR found it , it had an image, but would not allow any modifications to its IP address which was completely out of network (10.1.1.128). Contacted Amcrest and received message that they would get back to me in 2 days or contact Amazon. I returned it and leaked my wounds. A waste of time and effort. Do not get this product, which is not ready for prime time, no pun intended.

The media could not be loaded. Update (10 months later), After returning the camera described below for a replacement. I installed the replacement and LOVED it so much I purchased another (6 months ago). I now have run one for just under a year, and a second for around 6 months. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. These cameras are functionally amazing and return a picture that is wildly impressive. Barring the initial issue (below) that was resolved via free replacement, I would recommend these cameras to everyone.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Original Review (below)...Installed this, and initially LOVED it. It completely crushes the performace of most other PTZ cameras. I had it wired with POE. Unfortunately, two days ago (One WEEK after hanging it), the image went from perfect to fuzz with a flicker of brighness. It can be seen in the images attached. The first was taken at 6:15pm and the second at 8:34pm (on the same day). There was no rhyme or reason for the failure. I tried rebooting. Powering off and on. I even performed a factory reset (first from the built in browser, then from pressing the reset button). After the reset I re-connected (even skipped the POE and powered directly) and the video is the result. Flickers about ea 5 seconds then fuzz. VERY disappointed! For the record I have 20 other cameras (1 WIFI PTZ, a couple WiFi fixed, and a bunch of IP8M fixed) from Amcrest and they all ROCK.

I am used to paying around 100 dollars for Amcrest cameras. I was shocked at how much this Amcrest PTZ costs. What’s that old saying You get what u paid for. It was easy to install. My Synology surveillance system recognized camera. Although model number was not on Synology camera list. The generic listing was ok. Right off the bat I noticed the difference in picture. I set camera to 4k at 30 FPS I zoomed into my green house heater I had on shelf by door 50 ft away. At 25x I could read the model and serial number on heater tag. I digital zoomed and still could read text. Yeah Camera is expensive but the detail is Amazing

surviving outdoor, in the midwest. after 1 year, performs like it was new. there is a fan that constantly runs within too.

Discussed this before buying with Amcrest Sales to make sure buying what I needed. Told me it has auto-tracking (smart tracking) feature but ended up spending hours of installation and setup for nothing. Later reached out to sale again to confirm and they said just return if I don’t like it. What a waste of time!

This was the first camera I got from Amcrest which got me into the Amcrest software and hardware ecosystem. I tried a number of other brands that offer point solutions for home use. Most of these are a waste of time and money. Amcrest offers cameras which range from entry level to high end and all of them connect to the same software to provide similar capability across the models. I am now in the process of installing an Amcrest NVR to give me recording and storage capability for all the home cameras I installed. Their software allows me the ability to view all cameras remotely when I am on holiday, it warns of motion or picks up vehicles and people when they approach my home. The resolution and PTZ capability of the higher end models is fantastic. I honestly do not see the point of investing in the alternative options which are in a similar cost range but cannot resolve facial features or number plates. Most of the investment in in installing a home video surveillance system is in the time, cabling and setup. Just spend a few $$ more and get a system that has decent software that allows your hardware investment to work properly and reliably.The IP8M-2899EW-AI model is essentially a semi pro model which is suitable for commercial use as well as high end domestic applications. I used it in the most critical position to capture everything that happens between the street and my home. It has the resolution, optical zoom and PT control for any situation. Highly recommended.
