Q: Can this stored next to a MacBook or laptop? (Carrying in a bag or on an organizer)?

It will have scratch marks if the mouse pad store next to any hard items. I stored it next to my iPad in a bag and it has scratches. The best thing to do is to have a protective sleeve bag for it. Since it is aluminum, it does not affect any electronic items manetically.

Q: Can you write on this with dry erase markers?

I wouldn't, there is a very slight texture that may make erasing difficult. The other side is fake leather so I wouldn't get it wet either.
