L brackets are used to mount cameras with heavy (often zoom) lenses on tripods in portrait mode - i.e. with the camera vertical. Nor are they optional, as a normal mounting will simply not be strong enough to hold the camera and it will rotate until the lens points towards the ground. Manfrotto make an L Bracket available here for £119. This one is far less expensive, easy to assemble, holds the camera very firmly and seems to me robust enough to last long term. The bracket will have to be loosened but (on my camera) not removed completely to change the camera battery if the battery slot is in the camera base, but that is true of the more expensive L Brackets too. I am pleased to have acquired such a functional item at such a reasonable price.

Terrible. Way too small to be fit for purpose. If you have a toy camera it might be useful, If you have a larger DSLR forget it. I sent it back for a refund.

Great for that quick mount or change of orientation, worth the price and well made.
