Q: Why are they so expensive? I would love to try this bowl, but I have 5 cats and believe that 100$ is a little much.

I started with one, and now all my cats have one! We love it! The bowl is stainless steel, and each bowl comes with its own non-slip place-mat. Food isn't wasted, any more, either... they eat it all (no more food left in the corners or on the floor). So the savings there adds up, too, considering their life-span. For me and my fur-babies, it's well worth the price.

Q: Okay, where is it made?

China :( This seller has some nerve talking about environmentally friendly material, with a product made in China.

Q: Is this available in plastic? Stainless steel too cold in winter for feral cat we've been feeding.

Please be careful using plastic bowls!!! Plastics bowls' have porous surfaces that can trap bacteria that thrive on leftover food and saliva giving your cat painful feline acne. Plastic bowls may also contain certain levels of lead. Dr. Catsby’s Bowl uses #304 food service grade stainless steel. This is the same grade of stainless steel as used in milk pasteurization, beer brewing, cookware, and eating utensils. Stainless steel is one of the most common materials found in kitchens today. It's used in everything from appliances to cookware, dishware, flatware, and utensils because it is durable, easy to sanitize, and corrosion resistant to various acids found in meats, milk, fruits and vegetables. Most importantly though, stainless steel is a safe option when it comes to use with food and beverage, as there are no chemicals that can migrate into your food from these products.

Q: Is this really any better than just using a (stainless steel) plate?

as with all things cat, it really depends on your cat. i'd say yes, but i wouldn't want you to blame me if it does not work for your cat.the basic principle is, cats tend to drag their food to the edge. if it is flat, you may expect it to spill out. this could also spill, but the cat probably already caught the food in her mouth before that happens. try it yourself. get a plate and a bowl and add wet food. see which one is easier for you without lifting the plate/bowl... i know i will eat better in a bowl. same thing as trying to use chopsticks on a plate vs on bowl.
