An Excellent Find, and I was Skeptical
Moon has been very weird with his food lately. Some of it was allergy related and I think we’ve got that under control, but he still scoops his food onto the floor (as does Rupert) and he’s been pacing the feeding station as if he’s contemplating the right angle to approach things. This is new behavior and it got me concerned. Now if you are anything like me, you have an entire china cabinet dedicated to a whimsical if not obsessive assortment of cat food dishes.I’ve got bowls of all shapes and sizes out the whazzoo. Think I’m exaggerating about the china cabinet, then talk to my husband. He’ll give you an earful about cat dishes. Still though, Moon is having issues, so I did some research and decided to try the Catsby bowl.I do not use plastic. I won’t eat from plastic for many reasons, and I won’t subject the cats to plastic, which just becomes disgusting over time. I prefer glass, ceramic, and stainless steel for their water and food dishes. The Catsby bowl is stainless; it’s shallow, and it has a nice rubber pad to sit on with a convenient thumb hole so you can lift it off the rubber pad. You don't want moisture collecting on the pad, so it's nice that you leave it in place and only wash the dish.I wasn’t sure at first because it is so shallow, and I expected food everywhere. Or that they would hate it, so I left the new bowl out along side their old bowls to see which they preferred. At the end of the test days, the new bowl was always empty and the other was not. There was no food on the floor either.I was skeptical about the whole whisker fatigue thing, but since Moon is easily overstimulated being as neurotic as he is, it might be true at least for him. At the end of the day though, they seem to like the bowls and if eating is more comfortable for them, especially with Rupert’s FIV teeth too, then so be it. They are expensive so I’ll only be buying two, but they are easy to clean and I can’t break them if I drop them, which happens often, which also means I probably won’t need replacements on hand.My only word of advice is that it says it can hold 1.5 cups of dry food. 1.5 cups of food is too much food for a cat and for the bowl. You’ll wind up with food on the floor because the bowl is very shallow, but I think it might be a win for me, and my husband will be happy to get rid of the cat china cabinet.

The best stainless steel cat dish
I highly recommend Dr. Catsby dishes! It’s the only dish I use for my cats. I had my dishes for over 5 years now and have no problem with it. It arrived in good condition and I never had problems with rust. The stainless steel is of a high grade compared to others I have seen.In case folks are wondering, I feed my cats wet food twice a day with small snacks inbetween meals. So their food is never left out and their dishes washed after every meal.

Cats seem to like it. It could be a little bigger though

Expensive, but I still think it is worth it
I didn't like the price, but I have to admit that after seeing out two new kittens using these . . . I think it was a good purchase. First, there is the whole whisker fatigue thing. Not sure if that is real or a means to market new products. So I will ignore that. Second, it is very easy for the kittens to eat out of. No trying to get the last bits jammed into the corners. Third, these things are STURDY. The kittens are not the most graceful of critters. They tumble over each other, step on the bowl, and generally trying to just get to the food. There is no way they are tipping these bowls over. They managed to tip their water dish over and a different bowl we had. The low profile and wide base make these very very stable. Fourth - crazy easy to clean. The same features that make it easy to eat out of makes them easy to clean. The rubber bottom easily detaches from the bowl allowing the dish to be fully washed in the dishwasher. Finally, this will certainly last a long time. An initial higher investment, but a long term one.I balked at the price, but had kitten fever and bought them because . . . well . . . kittens. I did the same thing each time we brought new dogs into the house. But this ended up being a purchase I am very happy I made. Not at all the indulgent spending I thought it was. Would definitely recommend.

Whisker-friendly cat food bowl that stays put, but you have to heat up leftovers on something else
I just started feeding my geriatric cats (6 lbs and 4 lbs) wet food for the first time. During the course of this routine switch-up, I realized one of my cats was "whisker sensitive" with her bowls. (I'm ashamed I'd never paid attention to this before!) After doing a bunch of research online, I discovered this bowl and thought it could be helpful for her and to increase her eating. I liked it a lot and so decided to buy a second bowl for my other (geriatric) cat.NOTE: I've been using this bowl for 5 days now, with wet cat food. The wet cat food styles I've had in it are stew and pate.PROS:- Both pieces are dishwasher-safe (hard REQUIREMENT for me).- Both pieces hand-wash easily.- Silicone pad has a dual function as a bowl cover, so there's no need to put leftovers from a meal back into the can (I LOVE this feature).- Bowl looks "modern" (clean design, stainless steel) - If you give a sh*t about that kind of thing :)CONS:- Seems a bit pricey.- Can't put the bowl in the microwave. (My cats seem to be less interested/enticed by cat food coming straight out of the fridge. So, after giving this a few more days of experimenting, I might end up having to put leftovers back in the can, after all, which would defeat the purpose of having the silicone cover...)- Silicone cover tends to collect fuzz/dust (albeit a small amount). I think some of this "fuzz transfer" happens during a paper towel dryoff after handwashing in sink. I imagine this problem could be resolved by manufacturing a solid cover with no design (there's a raised cat imprint and branding or something on one of the sides of the cover).SUMMARY: If you have the money, buy it. It's worth trying. I still really like it because of its traction and its wide bowl.
