Highly recommended
John Merriman narrates Modern Europe from the Renaissance to the Present, covering the major topics such as Medieval Legacies, Renaissance, Reformations, the Age of Absolutism, Revolutionary Europe and the Great War. Roughly 1/3 of the book covers 16th-18th century, 1/3 covers 19th century and 1/3 covers 20th century. The book is clear, fluid and easy to follow. Absolutely suitable for history class teachers, students and those who are interested in modern European history.

Fantastic textbook
I’ve never really been a fan of European history, I bought this book because it was required for one of my college classes. This book made me appreciate European history. I actually ended up keeping this book because I liked it so much.

Great book for overview of European History
Like many people, I have forgotten more than I remember with respect to history. After a trip to Europe, it was readily apparent that I was not at all up on my European history. I spent some time researching books that were readable cover to cover and ultimately purchased this book. The author does a good job of connecting the chapters to one another and literally stepping through history. I found the book objective and factual and not tremendously editorialized with the author's perspective. I highly recommend this book to someone that is keenly interested in European history. It is a great survey book on the topic.

The book itself is fantastic - a good balance of historical facts and anecdotes that make for good reading. It's been an invaluable resource as I prepare to teach this curriculum to high school students next year. The book had a few pages falling out and more marking than I would have expected for the "good" quality mark, but the markings are, at least, intelligent. On the whole, no complaints.

Great textbook
Good introductory text for this subject - I am using it to teach a homeschool European History course to an 11th grader and I feel it covers all of the topics he need to know to have a basic grounding in modern European history. The writing is engaging and I appreciate the questions at the end of the chapter which enable good discussions of the text.

Bad Condition
I ordered a good copy, but it was in awful shape. Cover and top 200 pages had extreme damage and severe folding on lower right corner and some of similar damage to upped right corner. I was completely disappointed at the book's condition.

Well - Written and Interesting
This is great text. I can be used as a reference, but is well - written enough to read cover to cover.
