Q: How is writing on the leather surface?

The padfolio itself has a very smooth outer surface, so I think you could write on it without any problems. It is soft though, so if you are someone who presses down hard, that might be an issue! I have been using mine for a while now and really like it, No problems at all.

Q: Can you replace? Clip rivet broke on first use.

If it's just the rivet that broke you can use a rivet tool to fix it.But if I were you,I'd contact the seller through amazon customer care because amazon keeps track of the issues that occur & how they are handled.Try that first.

Q: Is this padfolio rather thin? or bulky?

It’s pretty bulky. It’s lightweight though.
