I LOVE this game! As does my family
This game is superb. The closest analogue I can offer is Scotland Yard, a MB offering from the late 1980's, which required the police officers to pursue the culprit using... taxis? And buses? Not police cars?!?Anyway, Whitehall Mystery predates mechanized transport, but the coppers have the edge in that they can move twice as fast as the murderer (mostly). The game produces instant tension, as the pursuers hunt their quarry (with only the latter knowing how close they are, until they slap the cuffs on).It is slightly biased in favor of the police (in our family's experience, the culprit has only escaped twice, in about 50 playings), which is a good way of reassuring prospective purchasers: Yes, this game is infinitely replayable. Like chess. You may choose different strategies, but the game provides options for improvisation that prevent it from becoming stale.

Perfect game full of tactics and tension
I found Whitehall Mystery a perfect game. Easy rules, superb game mechanics, everything is about players. It is a "hidden movement" type game where both sides having fun, feeling tension, using tactics, sometimes must act risky, bluff or make unexpectable decision… Playing Jack is different from playing police which I consider to be an advantage, even more fun. After first several games you get into the game and you do not want stop playing. You can easily change the game balance between Jack and Police according to actual players abilities/skills. We started with "default" setting with three policemen against Jack, but then we added one policemen (pawn) to the game for the first two rounds to add tension from the very first move. You can also change game balance by adding/removing special abilities (police) or special moves tokens (Jack) that pawns can use during game and set how often you allow them to do so. Actually we play the way "policemen" can use their special abilities once per round instead of once per game and we love that. This game is somehow similar to Letters from Whitechapel (from the same authors). I have both and love both. Each has its own charm and I recommend any one of these.

An unusual game of police pursuit
The game pits the Whitehall killer (active at the same time as Jack the Ripper, but in a different neighborhood) against the police and press hunting him. Some players object to the idea of making a killer the protagonist of a game; if that idea makes you uncomfortable avoid this game. The killer mover secretly around Whitehall disposing of the evidence (represented by red disks, there is no explicit gore). The pursuers follow the trail of evidence and witness reports. If the killer disposes of the evidence before the pursuers pin down his location, he escapes. No two games are ever the same. There is a huge number of possible starting positions, and the possibilities multiply as the game progresses, before narrowing down again in the endgame. The balance between killer and pursuers depends heavily on the players. Some people report the killer usually wins, others insist it is the pursuers. Whichever way your group leans, there are supplementary rules to even things out.

Challenging and Stressful (in a fun way!)
This is such a fun game. There’s a lot of strategy, and it is stressful, but in a laughing and joyful way! One player is Jack, and they try to elude the other players who are the Investigators. It isn’t too difficult to learn, and the first time we played was a bit of a trial run. The second time was seamless. Highly recommend!

So much fun!!!
My wife and I bought this game and invited some friends to join us in playing. It was so much fun! It was incredibly tense whether playing as Jack or the detectives. I cannot recommend this game enough.
