Hot Showers again!
My water heater died and is costly to replace, tired of taking cold showers so I looked into portable water heaters, wanted on with small propane tank and rechargeable battery. Coleman unit fit the bill. I read the mixed reviews, watched the youtube videos and purchased. The only negative thing I can say it that it did not come with and ac adapter to charge/run at home. I was able to source one but I also found that the Coleman Powerchill ac adapter works as well, just a 120V to 12V cigarette type adapter for home. Used 4 times out of the box since I had no way to charge it without driving around for several hours. It will deliver scalding water so be careful. There is a trick to get it started just like a regular gas water heater, you have to hold the button down in the pilot position for a few seconds after it ignites to allow the element to get hot enough to keep the pilot from going out. I use a 14 gallon storage container for water, the 5 gallon jug that came with the unit was a bit light for my shower time. Shower hose is a little short but usable, Can't speak to longevity but I am happy to have hot water again. I do use indoors with exhaust fan on and a CO2 detector nearby, obviously despite warnings that is outdoor use only. Bottom line it works, wish I had one when I was a boy scout and camping

It didn't work
Amazon shipping speed was amazing. The concept of this item was great but in reality, it didn't work. Battery was fully charged and instructions were followed but the flame never stayed on after many tries. Finally, the very weak battery pack went dead. Thanks for Amazon's return policy, I am returning it.

Better than I thought
I have used this water heater for about three months now serval times a week and it is a good product, the 1 pound gas bottle will last for 10 or more showers depending on the amount of water used per shower the battery will last for a few showers don't know the real number because I usually charge it after every shower but the problem is you can't tell the state of charge of the battery so if you don't stay on top of chagrining every time you use it you can be $hit out of luck. Plus it does not seem to work while charging the battery. this should be fixed.Plus the instructions say the light will flash when charging but it only will flash four times and the goes steady even though it is still charging you don't know when its fully charged and how much of a charge it has so charge it every time or you will probably regret it.

Great unit overall
Like many have stated the internal rechargeable battery is a weak point. Its a Li-Ion battery and so its very susceptible to permanent damage if its internal voltage drops too low. I accidentally left mine at full discharged state and then left the unit sitting in storage for over 9 months. After that the battery would not hold any usable charge. I was able to find a replacement generic battery on Newegg, Item#: 9SIA2EY0ZU2243. The old battery plug lead will need to be solder spliced onto the new battery.Whats most important though is the core water heater internals have been reliable. The thermostat setting we found perfect for showers has remained the same over multiple camping trips. Also mentioned this unit is also a great starting point for a do-it-yourselfer who wants to improve the "shower enjoyment time" by adding a water flow bypass re-circulation hose from the shower head back to the water container (A simple restrictor valve at the shower head that reduces or stops water flow will cause the burner to shut off automatically since the water in the internal heat exchanger will quickly overheat). Its significant upgrade if running the unit from a limited supply of water.

Test before going!
Was excited to have a hot shower while out moose hunting for 2 weeks, opened and assembled before we left, made sure pilot light came on but didn’t run water through it. Got in the field and it would not ignite the heating element! Pilot lite came on fine but unable to switch to heating. Also didn’t like that the only way to charge was a cigarette lighter. Went to Coleman’s website to buy the wall charger and apparently they don’t sell it, despite the manual saying they do. If it had worked, it claims one charge will heat 40 gallons which would be impressive. The water bag it comes with is flimsy and as water leaves the bag it will fall off whatever you have it set on to gravity feed into the “heater”. Finally used a chair with a restraint to keep it from falling, but never could get the heater to work. Looks like standard threads so could probably use a different “tank”.Should have actually ran water through it before leaving but with a trusted name like Coleman we figured if the pilot lit it would be good to go.They could improve the design by recessing the on/off switch. Ours got bumped in transit and was dead when we arrived. On the plus side, it’s lightweight, if it works it would be efficient with heating/pumping 40 gallons on one pump charge.Really wanted to like this product. Returning it.

Very Hot!
This thing is phenomenal! The 5 gallon tote it comes with is garbage but if you have the space for a larger water container that would be ideal. It is very easy to connect the lines wrong and it will pump giving you the impression it's correct until it faults out and leaves you checking what's wrong. I used both a 1lb Coleman tank and a 5lb (using the adapter hose) the 5 lb gave much better performance than the 1lb (which was brand new). Altogether, once you get used to the setup and the water feed supply, this is invaluable. Used for 1 week in Montana at a primitive site that DID have water.
