There are colombas and there are colombas, and the there is this Italian masterpiece. It is moist, elegant, the candied oranges inside have no comparison to others which are more similar to a gummi bear. The beautiful display of whole almonds and opaque sugar sprinkles are also artfully and thoughtfully placed. My only disappointment was when I received my much anticipated colomba was that it arrived in a plastic bag, the heat damaged my sugar sprinkles making it a thin white almost crunchy bed on top of the sinking cake. For a $49.00 cake, I recommend it be shipped in a box to avoid any damage. However, this particular colomba is so magnificent, i am venturing and ordering another.

If you like Panettone I think you will love this Fiasconaro Colomba Classica. I recently received one as an Easter gift and enjoyed it so much that after it was finished, I ordered one from Amazon. It arrived fresh and moist. The inside of the cake is soft, and the topping has a slight crunch to it. The candid orange adds a nice tang to the taste. My only disappointment was the day after I placed my order the price was reduced, and Amazon would not honor the new lower price. Next time I will keep an eye on the price before ordering.

I am Italian and this is possibly one of the best Easter Colomba that I ever had the pleasure to taste. It is far superior to the mainstream Easter colombas usually sold in supermarkets, it looks and taste more like a product of a fine pastry shop. Very expensive, though.
