Hard Work and Little Reward, But a Good Read
I bought this Spanish language edition of "Like Water for Chocolate" to practice my Spanish, and I stuck with it for about 20 pages and then gave up. My desire to learn Spanish isn't strong enough to overcome the practical difficulties of reaching for the dictionary a hundred times a page. I then bought this book in English and read it through and enjoyed it, though it's definitely a chick's book. Still, it was a fun story and a good time, and I donated the Spanish edition to the library, so maybe it's still in use at the library today?

Como mexicano, nacido y criado ahí pero actualmente radicado en Estados Unidos, cada una de las palabras en este corto libro me recuerda tanto a mi lugar de nacimiento. Revivieron en mi sus aromas, sus calles, costumbres, leyendas y - más que nada - su gente y su manera de expresarse y vivir la vida: con pasión, entrega, enjundia, valentía, humor y muchas más. Qué maravilla de libro.

Este libro no tiene ningún desperdicio. Cada segundo vale la pena. La narrativa de la autora es completamente hermosa, tan delicada, ingeniosa y simpática. El libro es un viaje maravilloso a la cultura latina resaltando las comidas más tradicionales y deliciosas de México. Tuve el privilegio de leer el libro mientras hacía un viaje por México, así que la historia me sirvió como guía culinario. Sublime. Gracias Laura Esquivel.
