the suction isn't great, but it's battery operated and safe
I was hesitant to buy this for my 2 year old son's birthday because about the reviews of it not being very durable and being cheaply made. I went ahead and bought it anyways because of my son's obsession with our vacuum and push toys in general. I was pleasantly surprised!! It is exactly what you would expect for a toy vacuum. No, the suction isn't great, but it's battery operated and safe. Sure, some of the pieces fall off, but that's what happens when you bang plastic against the wall with brute force. The front piece has actually only fell off once on us and that was after a hard hit against the wall. It took a whole 3 seconds to attach it right back on. This was my son's favorite birthday toy and he plays with it for hours! Very happy with this toy--his 3 year old and 6 year old brother love it, too.

Has real suction!
My twin, 22 month old great-grandsons obsess over my granddaughter's vacuum, wanting to push it all around the house and they are a little frustrated when it is still a little too heavy for them to manipulate. So when I found out that nowadays there are several toy vacuums out there that actually have suction(for special small things that come with the vacuum) and look just like their Mom's, I knew I had to find just the right one for the boys. Well when I asked my granddaughter what kind of vacuum she had, I instantly Googled it and found out that Amazon had the "almost real" vacuums and I ordered the newest model, the Dyson "ball". When I found out that she didn't have the "ball" model, I was happy to find out that my order hadn't shipped yet and I instantly changed my order to the original upright Dyson. Wow, I am sure my precious little "great-grands" will love it. This is definitely nothing like the "still-cute" little push toy (Fisher Price), with popping balls that my sons loved about 40 years ago. I think it is probably still made.

Hours of fun till it broke.
I bought this for my 2 year old knowing it was 3 and up so I didn't have many expectations. My son loved it, it looks just like ours and he became obsessed with it for several days. It lasted awhile, but alas the rigors of play with a 2 year old finally broke it down. The front piece came off a bunch but was readily put back on. The hose is removable but a bit of a challenge to get back on, at least for him. He ended up breaking it there trying to slam it back in place. Also the battery door broke the very first time I tried to unscrew it. The screw securing it actually snapped off and broke so I could have just duct taped it and moved on but I left it off. He was having so much fun playing with it without the noise I figured we could save the batteries for something else. Yes it does have slight suction from the hose, don't buy it thinking it'll be anything more than a fun toy. I'll buy him another one, but not this one with the hose, in hopes it'll last a bit longer.

Do NOT purchase!
I loved that this vacuum actually works and is modeled after the Dyson I use. We purchased it for my son for Christmas and noticed it was missing the battery cover right out of the box so we sent it back. We ended up a couple months later repurchasing it hoping all the pieces would be intact- they were, but about five minutes after my son started playing with it, a plastic piece from the hose broke. It was nothing a little shipping tape couldn't hide so I shrugged it off. The SAME day, the front piece fell off AND the hose broke from the base while trying to remove the garbage container. Now, it is three days after arrival and I have fixed it four times. RIDICULOUS. If I had paid $10 for this I wouldn't think anything of it but for $40 I expect much better. EXTREMELY disappointed in this purchase. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me!

Wish it was sturdier.
My daughter and son love to help out around the house, so this was the best way to let them feel like they were helping without risking breaking out real dyson handheld. The only problem is the suction tube on the back got pulled out and there was no way to put it back in without bending it out of shape. Now it doesn't hold very well. In their defense, it says ages 3+ and we gave this to our daughter when she was 2 years old daughter. She loves to help clean so this was fun for her. Our 1 year son also wants to play with it and it's impossible to keep him from pushing it around too. At that age it's kind of hard to prevent them from being rough with it without overstressing ourselves, so maybe that's on us. The suction isn't crazy, so that's why I put 3 stars, but they both had fun sucking up crumbs and lint, and considering it's meant to be more of a toy the suction is just fine.Even with the tube issue they still love to push it around so it's still gets occasional use.

Great for little guy!
This is a great toy. The first one we got didn't work right--the battery holder didn't have all the conductors. But amazon replaced it easily, and the working one is great! My son loves it. He was 14 months when we got it for him so its a little tall for him, but he makes it work. He's 16 months now. My pediatrician says kids are in this cleaning phase until only 18 months so hopefully he will continue to get use out of it as he gets older! There is one piece that has come off on both vacuums that was small enough to put in his mouth--a circle of plastic where the hose attaches to the vacuum, but we took it off and the vacuum works fine.

New favorite!
My 18-month-old son loves this. It's pretty much identical to our real Dyson, which really puts this toy vacuum over the top. The hose even comes off! The hose is the only part that has suction, unfortunately, though. Since the recommended age is 3 years, we took off the attachments and he only gets to play with those under close supervision, though they don't have any loose parts and don't *seem* small enough to choke on. We actually only give him the vacuum under supervision anyway though. He loves taking apart the collection bin and chewing on the hose (major teething going on), so it is taking a beating, but so far it's holding up well (we've had it about 2 months). He occasionally gets the bottom part off, but it pops right back on. This toy was well worth the money!
