Great for small studio BUT!
first of all, don’t be confused. This is not hi-fi, monitors It is MIXING MONITORS. And As a mixing monitors, this guys are a really detailed and truthful, but without subwoofer it will be not enough to work with multiple of genres. It will work as a second pair to work in middle and high frequencies, if you need to work in pretty small area, or you have additional subwoofer KH series OF Neumann. BUT DON’T BUY IT IF YOU DON’T HAVE KH-series NEUMANN SUBWOOFER OR As a main monitoring system for your mixes.

Definitely for pros and you get what you pay for
I've had this for awhile now and wanted to wait until I really put this monitor through its paces. I'm surprised there's not any reviews for this model so hopefully this helps. As stated in the title, this is for pros as it's a working horse studio monitor. If you're an average consumer looking for a good speaker, these will technically do it but there's a huge caveat, which may or may not be a deal breaker for you. This is long so I'll summarize for those in a hurry: if you're a musician or in the music industry looking for accurate monitors, you won't be sorry. If you're just looking for speakers to make your music sound good, it's ok but this won't make your music 'come alive' if that's what you're after. These monitors let you hear every little mistake during the recording process so that may be a deal breaker for some.My first set of real studio monitors was the JBL 305P MKII. Those are 5" speakers and for the price, they sound awesome: Incredible bass, good mids (though not as forward as I'd like but still useable) and absolutely smooth, pristine highs that doesn't pierce my ears (not sibilant). The stereo imaging and soundstage is awesome for the price. Unfortunately, the hiss coming from these was a deal breaker for me and drove me nuts, so I had to get new ones.Spent months researching and listening to sound demos online of this model, the Genelec 8020D, ADAM A4V and Focal Shape 40. I actually liked the sound demos of the Genelec and the Focal better but they were more expensive and not available at the time. The Focals actually sounded the best but they were even more expensive than the Genelecs at the time. From everything I read though, the Neumann still had the least amount of hiss so I figured this was the best choice. Even though I'm a musician on a very tight budget, I wanted professional monitors for a change so took a chance. The first few days of breaking in these monitors, the sound wasn't that great. It took several weeks of listening to at moderately high volumes (moderate for me) to really open up.First, this is very loud, I mean really loud for a 4" speaker! When I received this, the output level was set at 100db. I connected it to my audio interface and the volume was set to zero. When I played the music and slowly turned up the vol, it scared the crap out of me because it got so loud! I barely moved it up a notch or two, and it blasted the volume. I turned it off and switched it down to 94db (the lowest setting on the monitor) and then it was manageable. I honestly didn't think such small speakers could hit that hard so don't worry about volume (it goes up to 114db so can only imagine how loud that will be).Bass wise, this won't rumble the floor but as long as you're not listening exclusively to bass centric music (edm, hip hop/rap, etc.), you'll be fine. I play & listen to mostly rock, metal, pop, classical, jazz fusion, etc. so this is perfect for me. When you play music with lots of lows, it flubs more than distorting so you may want to get subs if that's an absolute must for you. I was worried about boundary wall issues with the bass since one of the speakers is in a corner but surprisingly, there hasn't been any problem with that. I'm thinking it has to do with the speaker size because even with my JBLs 5" speakers, which has more lows than these, never had problems with it.The mids, it's good overall but depends on the source. For female vocals, it's awesome. Male vocals on the other hand, it really depends on how it was recorded as some sound good while others just sound ok. I think you need to use the networked eq feature to get that down perfect. Distorted electric guitars sound great however so it mainly seems to be male vocals, at least from my experience.Highs are incredibly smooth and never harsh. I have super sensitive hearing and my ear never gets fatigued after hours of listening to it. That would give the impression that these monitors are more on the warm side and that's probably true to some degree. Still, you can hear a lot of details because the separation of the instruments is very good. It's really easy to pick out an instrument in the mix and focus on it with ease. As for hiss, it's incredibly low, nothing like my old JBLs for sure so my ears are very happy.Stereo imaging is fantastic, like almost too fantastic. The imaging is so intense that it feels like you have a center channel speaker. You can actually tell if the singer was standing slightly to the side of the microphone when the vocals were being recorded. That's where it can get annoying. For the first few days of breaking in the speakers, some of the music I was listening to was off in the output level. One speaker always sounded just a little louder or quieter, so I was constantly adjusting the gain on one of the speakers. Then I heard several songs where everything sounded perfect and that's when I realized it was the recording and not the speakers. I never noticed that on my JBLs.Soundstage is just average so it's not any worse than some of the other brands (I think the JBLs were actually a little better). I don't play games so I have no idea how these would be for that. You also have to position the speakers just right. It can't be too close or too far apart, but you'll know once you get it in that sweet spot as it'll sound right. That also means you have to sit in the correct position as well.As for features, I wouldn't say it's bad because it's got some controls, just not a lot but that really hasn't been an issue for me. I haven't used the network feature to control the eq in more detail or the Neumann mic to adjust those settings so no info on that. I also didn't use the Neumann app because the monitors have to be networked to really use the app.I got the white version as my old black JBLs really darkened the room. It's amazing how much my room lightened up after getting these. Some people have complained about the Neumann symbol being too bright when powered on but for me, it wasn't an issue (perhaps it's more noticeable on the black ones). These are also very light, so it doesn't sag the shelf on my desk like the JBLs did.Overall, I'm very happy with these monitors. I got a great deal from Kellard's and they were very helpful with all the questions I had. I would definitely recommend these for musicians but for audiophiles or anyone just looking for great sounding speakers to listen to music, there may be better choices because you'll be able to hear every little mistake. Hope this helped!
