Well-made
This is a substantial and well-made compass. I have been looking for a heavy-duty one, and I got wood turning.

Nice quality. Good machining.
Seems to be nice quality. I have used it the last couple weekends a project to scribe aluminum angle. The machining of the parts is good in that there is tension in the joints where the parts don't shift unless moved intentionally. If you are using inside, I would this thing is near perfect. If using outside, my only comment spray down with WD40 or wipe down with oil before storing, as its not stainless steel and can develop surface rust quickly.

Very nice divider
Sturdy, well built, heavy enough that a lot of pressure doesn't have to applied to use.

Solid Construction, But Lax Quality Control
The compass is "rough hewn" but solid -- it's not a tool that will be a pleasure to use, but if you get a good one, it should be quite serviceable. On the first compass that I got, the pencil holder was misaligned with the arms (which may not matter much in use, but, at the very least, makes them difficult to store) and very stiff. The pencil holder is *just* big enough to hold a wood pencil, it won't hold most mechanical pencils or pens. Hopefully the replacement will at least have the pencil holder aligned with the arms.

the BEST compass I have ever seen
A compass only need to check a few boxes to be "good". And almost ever compass I see for sale misses them. A compass needs, a pencil holder that will hold a pencil of rather huge girth (as I will be putting a woodworking pencil in there with a pencil lead big enough that it won't break). And, it needs a lock on there that when I am scribing a circle here and there, and over there. It will not lose it's position and I scribe the wrong dimensions. When I was in school I had the compass I see mostly for sale. That it can open up with a turny wheel. And it will stay there. good. But when it is time to close it. I gotta use that turny wheel again. Nope, not for me anymore. There is a locking nut on this compass, yes. And when I loose it. The aperture moves freely. That's only two things. How can everybody mess that up? But they do. And this company, got it right. And it is sturdy. It will last my life and probably my kids, they can have it when I don't do crafty things. I got a big one, first. But it's not very good for small circles (yes it "does them). But I'm fastidious like that. I got a small one also. And a hard box to put em' in (PFC Case with Pluck Foam 12" x 8" x 2 1/4")
