Wow. I was so impressed with how beautiful this book is! The lock is pretty and neat how it opens. It's very easy to open and close. The paper is nice quality. I was going to use this as a special journal to write funny/cute things my children say. It looks so nice sitting on my dresser. I'm sure it'd look amazing on a bookshelf since the spine is so ornate. Very happy with this purchase.

I wanted something unique for a guest book for my Renaissance themed wedding and I came across these journals. Unable to decide, having never seen these, I ordered this and the Nocturnelle thinking I'd choose one and return one. They are both so beautiful, I'm keeping both! As in other reviews, the details are amazing, hearty books with sturdy binding, pages as described, I see no problems with the locks (I read they were magnetic, but mine hook) and I had no issues at all with the labels. The pockets in the back are a bonus as is the bookmark. Everyone who has seen them so far wants one, so yes, excellent gift idea!!

This book is so beautifully designed, so pleasing to the eye, and is absolutely perfect in every possible way! I almost don't want to use it! This cover is stiff enough but also has a slight feeling of being a tiny bit bendy, there is some 'give' which I completely love. It feels more authentic that way. I adore the red colour, which has the perfect rusty aged look you would expect from an ancient tome. The detailing on the page edges (not on the pages themselves, but the areas visible when the book is closed) is so so lovely. I came back and bought more as gifts because this is the most gorgeous book I have ever seen!

I was hoping the journal would be a darker red but it's still beautiful and the clasp is a great detail. I have several PaperBlanks journals and I love them all. I'm definitely a fan and will be buying more as I plan to give some as gifts.

Item was delivered to the neighbor's address-- good thing they like me! The printing on the paper edge isn't as impressive as I thought. I thought it might be slightly metallic, but it's just a matte grainy print. It has fewer pages than a silver filigree journal I bought from paperblanks (144 vs. 240). But all-in-all the details make it a great piece: from the soft feel of the cover to the lovely gilt pattern, the quality clasps, the pocket, and the little historical note on the final page.

I am so in love with this journal. It is sturdy and well-made. The paper is nice and thick. I'll be using it as an art journal, so I'll need it to stand up under gesso, watercolor, markers, etc. I feel confident that it will. I wish there were more pages for the price, but it's definitely a good purchase.
