Research that fits the classroom!
I have been an admirer and follower of Mr. Sousa for years. His research and writing about the brain and how it learns has guided my instruction and made me a better teacher! I have endless "aha" moments when reading his books. He does not do what so many others do and proclaim new methods and new ideas as his own or slap some clever name on an age-old practice of great teachers and sell it as new. He just shares what he has found to be true in research and practice and sets it down in sensible easy to follow language that speaks to me on multiple deep levels. I encourage anyone who teaches anything to read all of his books and let them inspire you to greater levels of communication in your classroom.

Many Takeaways
I've been teaching math to students for nearly a decade and found this book to be especially helpful. The author makes practical connection to what happens to the brain when learning mathematics. One of my takeaways relates to how educators organize their math time. The author points out that prime time (first 10-15 min) and closure (last 10 min) are extremely important in how students remember their math experiences.

I've been teaching math for 33 years and have always ...
I've been teaching math for 33 years and have always looked for ways to develop professionally and improve my techniques. Unfortunately, I haven't the time/know-how to invest in the research that David Sousa has taken up and presents so well in this book. His conclusions both confirm my hunches and grant me the affirmation to keep at it. This is a must-read for prospective and current math teachers !

help for teachers with math anxiety!
I am a Title I teacher with an expertise in reading/writing. I wanted to improve my math tutoring, but felt like my old math anxieties were impeding me. This book went a long way in helping me understand my own childhood difficulties in math and explaining how to teach children struggling in mathematics. Really worth the time and money!
