Yes, it *does* cool and heat items nicely
I got this to replace a similar one I've had for about a decade (that one didn't break until it was inadvertently pushed off a shelf onto concrete). As with that one, this works perfectly well as long as you understand how they work. There is no internal fan to circulate air - there is a metal plate that gets cold or warm depending on which way you flip the power switch. If you put things in that are relatively insulated (things in cardboard, etc) or that barely touch the bottom metal plate, they will take forever to cool down (or heat up) because the heat transfer is from conduction (touching) and not convection (air movement). Juice bags that lay flat on the bottom cool down really quickly. Soda cans don't cool down as fast because not a lot of the can actually is in contact with the bottom. So: you generally want things that have flat surfaces to touch the bottom (and that aren't insulating), or... you just need to put things in that are already cold (or hot).Aside from that boring lesson on heat transfer, I wanted to add that this Cooler/Warmer is very well made given the price point, and I expect it to work as long as the one I bumped off the shelf. It has a good capacity, and it'll hold drinks and sandwiches on trips, which is exactly what I'm getting it for, and it'll also keep hot food hot (well... quite warm at least) if that's what you want instead. The included strap works fine, but this will always be a bit awkward to carry. If you have an area between your seats to set it, the cup holders on the front are nice, but if, like me, you don't, well... they're fine, just not really as necessary. You need a decent amount of room for it if you put it behind a car seat (seat in a car, not child car seat), because the lid hinges open, so you might be able to fit it, say, behind a passenger seat, but not be able to open it en route because the lid hits the back of the seat in front of it.Sound-wise, it is about as loud as a fairly quiet room fan. It's not noticeable in the car, and it won't keep you awake in a hotel room - if you get the 120v to 12v adapter (and I highly recommend that you do - among other things, you can pre-pack the night before and leave it plugged in to keep things at temp, and then you can also use it in your hotel room on the way).

Perfect for a roadtrip with a Toddler!
We grabbed this before a 10 hour roadtrip with a toddler and it was perfect! It holds just enough to feed us all day. The cooler is designed very sturdy and fit on the floor behind the passenger seat so I could reach things as needed. It kept everything nice and cold and cooled quickly. It’s actually perfect for everyday adventures too. Sometimes I just throw a small ice pack in if the car will be off for more than an hour to keep things cold until the car starts again. The cord is nice and long also. If you can’t find it, it has it’s own storage compartment on top :)

Great little cooler for the price!
I tested the unit out first in the house and it had a little frost forming on one side in 30minutes (that's a good thing) I've had zero issues with the cord feeling hot or even warm.Pros:Good size-not too wide. I was worried it would make passengers squished. And it didn't.Cools quickly-30 minutesSorta quite- going down the interstate it's not noticeable at all. Idling it sounds like a computer fan.Seatbelt strap- I don't have to worry about it hitting my child if we were in a wreck.Cons:Keeps running when car is off- could drain your battery down. Needs some way to sense if car is off.Cup holders are small but not that big a deal. They'll hold a can or medium size drink but not a 16oz coke bottle. It'd be nice to have a light inside for when you access it at night.Overview:Nice little cooler for holding snacks, breastmilk, drinks, or medicine on long road trips. The size is good too because in the middle of the backseat it's a good armrest and the way it hinges you can reach back and open it easily. It would also fit well in the floor behind a seat. I would recommend this cooler because it works, has a good shape and useful features. Still has room for improvements though.

Works perfectly!
I purchased this as a gift for my husband and he is thrilled.Though some reviews stated the cooler wouldn't cool anything, just keep it cool, that's is not the case with ours. Drinks that were not cold at all become ice cold in the cooler. The medicine in the cooler is kept perfectly cold, not cool, as needed as well. When we put it to warm, everything was just as hot as when we put it in.This is perfect for cross country travel and exactly what we needed! I highly recommend it!!!

Great car cooler
I bought this for a road trip and it works great. I just plug it in the evening before we are going to use it so it can cool down. I packed it in the morning and took it to the car each day. Kept everything nice and cold. I recommend buying the adapter so you can plug it into the wall to cool up ahead of time. I was surprised as to how much it actually fit. It held quite a bit of food and drinks and was the perfect size for two peopIe to use for drinks and snacks for our road trip each day. It fit in the back seat of my Jeep perfect. I would absolutely recommend this cooler.

Buy a fire extinguisher if purchasing this.
I ordered this for a road-trip from Alaska to Florida. very first time I used it, I plugged the adapter into the cooler, then the car. As soon as I turned on the power, there was a loud bang, then smoke I quickly unplugged it and tossed it out of the car. the inside was incredibly hot to the touch, so I let it cool down and then discarded it. what a piece of garbage. Had I been driving, unable to take immediate action, this could have turned out very differently. Do not buy this... very dangerous.
