An huge upgrade from the predecessors!
I've own several Canon 85mm throughout my days of shooting. 85mm 1.2 II EF was my go to lens. I've shot so much on that lens that I would carry it with me to all my shoots. However the 85mm 1.2 EF version did not come without any problems. The focusing speed was dreadfully slow, the purple fringing were BAD and at 1.2 the corner sharpness will fall off drastically. Upgrading to this version, the RF 85mm 1.2, all of that problems have been fixed. The lens now focus much much faster, not 28-70 f2 fast but noticeably faster than the predecessor. You can actually shoot moving subject with it much better now and with the new element they added to control fringing, the purple fringing are gone! The lens is tack sharp from center to corner. People who said they cant justify the price difference to upgrade to this lens either 1) havent shot with this lens or 2) the work they do cant justify the price difference. For me, this is an all around worthy upgrade. The only thing thats missing on this lens that would make it the perfect lens is Image Stabilizer. That would have have made this lens perfect! The lens is not cheap, but the photo quality it brings is also very good. It has a control ring which most of the Canon RF lenses have now, you can customize it however you like. If I try to find something to complain about this lens, it would have to be the build material. The plastic built doesnt feel great to me compare to the EF version, but at the same time the EF version used a rubbery materials that can degrade and deteriorate over time as well (happened to me). So I guess with a plastic built I wont have this issue anymore, but I cant help to think that Canon could have really make it feel a whole lot better than this. This is just me being picky though, overall, this is still a great lens to have, and for 85mm shooters, this is a must upgrade in my opinion.

Sharpest Lens I’ve Ever Used
Having used this for about a month now, I am truly impressed with this lens. I’ve taken a number of portraits with this lens and also took it to a local car gathering (examples attached). Of all the RF lenses this is certainly the sharpest, though I’ve admittedly not used all of them just yet I’ve used a good amount so far. I’ve used the rf 16mm f2.8, rf 35mm f.18, rf 50mm f1.8, rf 70-200 f4.0, and rf 70-200 f2.8. Currently own the rf 28-70 f2.0, rf 100mm f2.8 Macro, and this lens. I also love the color and contrast rendering; the rendering is just absolutely beautiful, especially wide open at f1.2. It does get even a touch sharper if you stop down just a little bit, however you won’t really find anything to complain about wide open. Even sharpness to the edge of the frame is so good. I prefer shooting at longer focal lengths when space allows and this really fits the bill for my shooting taste. A truly great addition to my camera bag that I am finding that I can’t leave at home.

Stunning lens
This lens is massive (compared to others) and insanely priced. However the focus is fast, images are crisp crisp crisp, and the bokeh is phenomenal. If you can afford it or budget for it I highly recommend this lens. F/1.2 and such a close focusing distance opens up so many extra creative opportunities; not saying you'll actually sell that many prints at F/1.2 to people, but it definitely fulfills that creative urge.

Favorite Lens by far!
I am an intermediate photographer/cinematographer so I have used my fair share of glass for photo and video in the last 5 years or so. This is hands down the sharpest and most balanced lens I have ever used. It maintains sharpness when you stop down even all the way at 1.2! If you are going for that creamy background blur/bokeh this lens holds the throne. Not to mention the amazing low light capabilities. I wish the blackmagic 4k and 6k were RF mounts because I film on those mostly and it would’ve been perfect to pair with this RF system but shooting video on my Canon RP with this lens is a game changer. The combination of these RF lens and the color science of canon are a match made in heaven. I cannot recommend this enough. I have my eyes on the RF 70-200 2.8 next! If photography is just a hobby I cannot out of good conscience, suggest this lens because it is a PRETTY penny. But I can confidently say it is WORTH every penny. I am hoping blackmagic comes out with a camera in the next few years that will adapt the RF mount because I would love to put this glass on that system. But for photography this lens is and will be difficult to top!

My RF Baby!
This thing is beautiful inside and out! It takes great pictures and focus IQ is good. It's not as fast as the RF 24-105 F4 L but faster than the EF 100mmF2.8 L Macro lens. It's large and has some girth to it so it ways a bit more than the 24-105. Other than that I have no complaints about this lens. The bokeh is beautiful, the color is gorgeous and the images are sharp where you want them to be. I've attached some photos taken with this.

Beast mode
What can you say its the ultimate portrait lens, I have a full frame camera, in most cases its not needed but if it was about $1k cheaper or had stability mode I'd give it 5 stars. its expensive. if you want your backrounds to melt away this is the way to go. its the primary lens on my camera, clarity is so spectacular cropping images is no issue. Its heavy but after a week of one handed use you'll build some muscle and its not bad, comes with a hood that can attach backwards for storage but blocks the focus ring. if you have the funds and want the gold bar of portrait lenses get it!

Don’t buy from Amazon something this sensitive
Big, expensive, sensitive fragile lens and they sent me the lens IN A PLASTIC BAG! Terrible the calibration was way off, box and stuff inside was scratched and dented because of the unprotected expensive lens! The return took over a month to refund me, which thankfully they did, but do yourself a favor and buy it ONCE from a real camera seller because Amazon has yet to figure out how to treat an almost $3000 fragile item properly.
