Geomesh for DIY
I have been building a lot of retaining walls over the last few years, and am confident this geomesh will hold up nicely for the build-up of soil behind the retaining wall. I've also used the triax-type geomesh available from Home Depot. That is stronger I think, but is more of a pain to work with. So if you are doing soil stabilization to make sure your retaining wall will not collapse over time and you don't feel like you need a full 6 foot width of geomesh, this is a good choice because it comes in smaller widths. It is also a lot more pleasant to work with because it lays flat fairly easily. If you plan to build a particularly high wall (>4 feet), the triax is probably the safer choice - there are real data sheets with mechanical testing you can access on the web from the manufacturer. But, this stuff if easy to order from Amazon, the price is competitive, it is supple and pleasant to handle, and you can get the smaller quantities which a DIY person is more likely to want.

Response to the Lightweight Grid review
So first I have used all 3 Grades and they all perform well to their specific applications, Scar83 left a review above mentioning the belief of just using weed barrier to tie in to the retaining wall would work just as well. THIS IS HORRIBLE ADVICE, I am a general contractor (20years) specializing in Concrete and retaining wall construction, Do Not try to use weed barrier as a replacement for soil reinforcement, for all walls above 4’ just use grade 3 or better of this specific product, the universal works well as long as the grade of hill behind the wall isn’t too steep (10% grade max) anything steeper I’d recommend the grid grade 3 or better. I had to chime in because I know someone will read that review and their wall will fail horribly. Stay educated from reliable sources ladies and gentlemen please!Sincerely,Doug Y., OwnerKD Construction & Concrete LLC.
