The Beatles: Complete Scores (Transcribed Score)

Worth every penny.....
This is one of the best books on Beatle music that I have ever seen. In fact, I've been using it for the past several months uninterrupted...and having a blast! While it's not a 100% accurate (I have never found any music transcription book free of error), it clearly is a most highly commendable book and worth every penny! Nothing short of fantastic! My only quibbles are as follows:1. Claims to have all Beatle songs, but doesn't have Free as a Bird (one of my favs) and Real Love (I don't really miss this one anyways).2. The type they used is too small (something like 8 pt or smaller) and often too difficult to read, especially for old duffers like me. A larger type would have been much nicer, but then it would turn this very heavy book into a massively heavy book.3. Some of the notation was confusing to me, like the shorthand they used for repeating the notes from previous bar into the next bar rather than typing out the notes again. I was able to figure this out, but it would have been nicer to include a more complete musical notation legend at the beginning of the book. But these are minor complaints...I really have nothing but praise for the book. So, if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to my piano to play Lady Madonna.....

can you say comprehensive?
all the flaws others mentioned.the print runs small. every instrument is scored, supposedly. it's not always 100% accurate. but it's damn close.this ain't for beginners either.you're not gonna find anything this comprehensive- anywhere.and the book is BIG, you'll need a gizmo to keep it open to the page you want.my only real knock might be that it just might be TOO comprehensive. I don't need every cover the Beatles recorded before they moved away from that because they were writing their own tunes. we're talking really obscure, fanataics only. the bass lines are helpful if you incorporate that in your piano or guitar playing. the drums are NOT, just a wasted bunch of space on every page of every song. we're talking 1200 plus pages, just eliminating the drum scoring would have made the book significantly lighter.

AMAZING documentation of every song The Beatles ever recorded. Very happy it's been so well preserved for future generations.
Every song, every instrument, SO thankful someone was allowed to do this. I would like to know the back-story. It's downright amazing how well it's done with all of the instruments.I've moved around between instruments over the years and it's been interesting to get to try the guitar (TAB!), piano, and now drum parts. The accuracy is spot on. I've never seen any group documented with a meticulous score like this. It must have been a team with a slew of tools to slow down, filter, pull apart the music. MASSIVE undertaking no doubt. The only problem is how small the type/music is due to the size of the material. With every song having only 2 lines of music per page (due to so many instruments being scored) it made for a long book, with thin pages, and tiny type. But I can't complain as they did everything they could perfectly given the constraints of publishing. It's a 6-star piece of work!

Worth every penny, here are pros and cons
Pro's-------1) A robust work - is it complete, is it perfect? Dunno.2) Contains Vocals notation and lyrics, Guitar(s) notation and tab, Bass notation and tab, and drums - makes a great way for your band to get all the beatles songs in one place.3) Price is very reasonable for what you are getting.4) Includes a nice discography of british single, british Albums, American singles, American Albums at the back.Cons------1) Basically the form factor is the con - pages are 10" x 7", the book is 2" thick. Hard bound form factor and 1130+ pages means it won't lay flat on a music stand. More of a "desk reference" than a song book.2) Font and notation is fairly small -- kind of hard to read! Maybe I'm getting old.3) I saw some notation that looked non-standard, for instance references to string bends and so forth were not "typical" guitar notation.General comments------------------This is a great idea, and the authors are to be commended for completing this project and for making this available. I only just received it so I can't comment on the accuracy of the transcriptions so please rely on other reviews for that. Its a massive work and if you are a beatles fan, or have a band that wants to play beatles tunes - this seems like a must have.General improvements would be to increase the page size to that of a typical song book, improving the font size and notation size. Spiral bind it and put it in 3-4 volumes so it would lay flat on a music stand. You get a lot for your money here...a good value. Overall, I really like this because I play guitar, bass, and keyboards and it will be fun to work from these transcripts and lay down and combine tracks.I'd recommend this to any beatles fan that wants to take a shot at some of their songs.
