Can't Get Any Simpler
This is a great product. I've always wanted to do time lapse, but never wanted to get into all the mechanics of it. Who wants to tie up an expensive camera and risk it getting damaged or "permanently relocated?" Brinno makes time lapse stupid easy. It is almost a miracle in the palm of your hand. I read the manual, set up the camera and did a great first video of carpet being installed in my game room. Here's all it takes: Position the camera, select the capture interval, turn the camera on, record the event, turn it off, let the Brinno do its thing (image processing), pop out the flash card, slip it in the computer. iPhoto loads it -- BOOM! You've got a time lapse movie. It saves as an AVI, but when you load it into quick time (as in play it in quick time) it automatically gets converted into a .mov. It's that easy. No assembling in post (as with the GOPRO unit). Seriously, this thing makes time lapse as easy as taking a snap shot. Image quality is very good. Size is shockingly small -- in the palm of your hand. Light weight. I was even pleased with the packaging -- rivals that of apple products. This is truly a user friendly device. Buy it and enjoy it.

A good product to buy used!
I wanted to take a time lapse of the 2024 total eclipse. The camera was going to be left at a location where it might easily be stolen, so I didn't want to spend a lot. This product worked very nicely. It's old technology so not the highest resolution. The main "gotchas" are that it requires VFAT formatted SD memory cards, which are no longer the standard. Most of the modern 64Gb memory cards can't be formatted as VFAT, however, 32Gb and smaller ones can, and some older 64Gb memory cards can. Once over that hurdle it worked great. To view the videos you'll either need to use VLC or the "legacy" microsoft video player. Again... old technology and video formats are unfortunately ever changing. The modern equivalent product is not really that much of an improvement over this older one, frankly... just costs a lot more.

Terrible Video Quality
I bought this to video a laboratory experiment in time lapse video. I had been using a low cost camcorder with time lapse capability. I purchased the Brinno TLC 200 since it offered any time segment I wanted (the camcorder only went up to 80 seconds) and compiled the images into video format. The time lapse feature work OK, but the video quailty is so poor (even though this is advertised as an HD camera) that I am unable to interpret the images in the video.Unfortunately I do not have the original packaging this unit came in so I am unable to return it. Since I bought the BCS 18-55 lense also, I now have almost $600 invested in something that is worthless to me.

Best first commercial version of Time Lapse Video Cameras in market, so it is not 100% optimal to be the first one.
It is a good first commercial initiative of Time Lapse camera with good picture quallity, but unfurtunatelly it is not intituitive manufactured for end users.- View screen is small with very bad pixel resolution to guide the user in focus the camera.- SelfView mirror accessory need to be attached with a metal ring that must be sticked in the lens, so if you move the lens to focus the camera that ring moves and it will not fit well the magnet of this SelfPortrait accessory.- Menu settings is really anti-user if you're not good with complex or less-intuitive menus, please do not try this stuff.- Last firmware developed by them for this camera (which is the latest hw they made) is from October 2013, so I'm afraid they do not like to evolve the features or at least optimize the menu.- Timer option is good, because you will not wakeup at 5am to take a TimeLapse video of the sunset, BUT the bad news is if you do not disable the Timer after this scheduled recording, it will keep active so you have to enter again into the settings and cancel the Timer.- Poor guidance to get the best of your camera, if you like to test a lot you will enjoy this camera, but if you like this apps makes the things for you, it will not be your product.- HD is not 1080p is simply 720 interlaced. May be you want to watch your recordings in your 1080p TV, nope you have to watch it in less quality.- Sensitive expousure is good, but you have to setup manually (we're not photographers..) I guess this camera never will evolve to special intelligent scenes as your first japanese camera had.- Somebody could say, I can do Time Lapse videos with my powerful Iphone or Samsung, mmmh maybe not, this little machine has a good HDR, good angle (it means it covers more area than your smartphone) and the low-light scenes are very well managed by this camera. Besides you will not have your smarthpone getting Lapse Videos for hours, this camera is for this.- Self Portrait feature is not clear explained in manuals, you have to take time to understand how to make this.- This model is cool for your kids or geeks that wants stop-motion animes productions..- It came without secure cord to hang it in your hand, nevertheless it cames with small hole to attach a cord there.- It is a camera yes, but only takes photos to make them videos, so if you wonder you can take a simple picture during your travel? the answer is NOT.- Battery life is good, I know a lot of people has HD cameras but those takes a lot of battery. This one not, it is definetelly good.- AVI format is the only output codec, I belive they might think on HEVC to let you not to buy expenise SD memory (BTW maximum SD Capacity is 32G)CONCLUSION: The camera is good, I guess for 2014 commercial version is the best you can get over there.. but wait at least 3 years and you will find a better options.

Time lapse is fun, HDR makes it up a notch.
The HDR functionality works really well across a variety of changing light conditions. The images are definitely not on par with a DSLR or even a newer iPhone. However, the stitched videos come out surprising crisp - and with very good battery life. If you are considering one of these, I would say the HDR is definitely worth the upgrade for the price difference. This is not a camera that you would want to use outdoor in dynamic weather (or rain) without the weather resistant case. One of the things I like most about the camera is the articulating lens - you can prop the camera on just about any surface and then tilt the lens to get the angle tuned for the perfect amount of ground/horizon/sky for your composition preference. But if you are using the weather resistant case, you lose the ability to tilt the lens. The preview is good for making sure you're set, but once you go to record the preview ends. Great for battery life, but there have been more than a couple of times I really wanted to see what was happening in regards to lighting. All in all I am happy with the purchase.
