The Perfect Tea Time Snack
The mochi were set in individual colorful wrappers and were so cute. They are squishy and elastic as they should be making them fun to play with before you eat them with your tea of choice. I recommend an oolong or another similarly earthy tea, but any tea is good.I've got these before and I've noticed that it's best when you buy them during Winter and Spring. The reason being is that these are traditionally Japanese confectioneries that don't put up with heat and humidity very well. You would think that they would come in a refrigerated truck, but they don't. I suspect that's why some of the people that gave these sumptuous treats a bad review said they were melted and tasted bad was because they bought during the wrong season.Something else to note is that these may not suit American tastes. They aren't very sweet by design. If you're used to sweeter things with more of an intense flavor they may not be to your liking. I like to nibble them slowly between sips of tea to truly appreciate the flavor of the mochi itself and the delicious fillings inside. The red bean and green tea were my favorites. The peanut and taro are good too. The taro has a very light nutty flavor for those who like me had no idea what it was before they tried it. For those who have never had mochi before this is a good variety pack to see what you like.Warning, once you open the package eat all of them within two days and keep them refrigerated. They will dry out quickly and won't be as good if left open to the air too long.

Royal Family's Quality varies, but overall the best deal $$ wise on Amazon for packaged mochi.
-- They've raised prices since I left my review.... keep that in mind.I'd give 5 stars if the first package I received wasn't close to the expiration date. The taste and quality was very different than the second package which was fresher and tastier. I was desperate for mochi so I went ahead and gave this product a second try. I would say overall daifuku's mochi tastes the best, but this one isn't that far behind and they give you a sampler that's reasonably priced on Amazon.A single pack could cost anywhere from 4-5 bucks (3 if you find a good deal), but you get all of their flavors! You do save a bit of money by not going and buying each individual flavor. The only downside is i wish they would let you choose what flavors you want in your sampler. If they cut me a deal like this for 4 boxes of taro mochi I'd keep reordering!Flavors best to worst:Peanut butter is probably the best. The mochi has a nice nutty flavor and the filling is a dollop of peanut butter.Taro is tasty. Good amount of taro flavoring, but its not super strong like in some boba teas for instance. The majority of the taro flavor comes from the filling.Red bean is the most bland. Packaged red bean mochi tends to be bland overall, but this one is even more bland than other brands I've tasted (daifuku's & rice cake's).I'm not a fan of the green tea flavor. It reminds me A LOT of the green tea flavor in Halo Top's green tea/mochi ice cream. It's that very chemical, perfume tasting green tea flavor. It straight up tastes like green tea perfume if that could be a thing. Very bitter.

Pleasantly surprised
dI want to start by saying that I am not an expert on Mochi, or what makes a really great Mochi, however, I do know when a product tastes fresh, and tastes good. This Mochi seemed very fresh and had some wonderful and interesting flavors. When the package arrived it was surprised at how heavy it was. I opened the package and it contained 4- 7.4oz, separate boxes of Mochi, in 4 different flavors (taro, peanut, red bean, green tea). At the time I purchased these the cost was around $12 so that would make each box about $3 each which I considered a fair price for the generous amount of Mochi I received. Each box has 6 nice sized pieces of Mochi. Each individual piece is a little over an ounce and was in its own little paper cup ($$if you look at other peoples pictures you will see what I mean). The Mochi I received was very soft, chewy, and fresh. It was wonderful to have all of the different flavors to choose from. I have to say that the peanut was my favorite (as other reviewers have mentioned). It kind of reminded me of the taste of an Abba-zabba (if anyone remembers that candy). My next favorite had to be the red bean. The taste is hard to compare to anything else. It’s just a subtle sweet flavor. The Taro is much like the red bean that it also hard to describe but I would say it taste like a good yam or sweet potato 🍠. Then there is the green tea which has a a strong floral flavor exactly like a good green tea.I have to say that Mochi is one of those things that you either like it or you don’t. It’s squishy, soft, and chewy (like good gum), so if you don’t like that kind of texture, then you probably won’t like Mochi. I find that kids love it for that squishy x cases it’s an acquired taste that grows on you. For me, I wasn’t that found of it at first but now I love it and I want all the time.To conclude, I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes Mochi or is interested it trying something fun and different. Also, another item to try is ice cream wrapped in Mochi. That’s a real taste treat. I hope my review encourages some people to give Mochi a try. Take care and Enjoy 😊
