Better than a standard chain when ripping
When I ordered it, this did not appear to me to be the highest quality chain and it was not configured exactly as the ripping chains I was familiar with. So I didn't know what to expect, but I can no longer find the conventional ripping chain for my saw, so I tried this one. I have only used it on red cedar, which is pretty easy to cut. It has done quite well; significantly better than regular chain giving me a very controlled cut quickly (compared to regular chain) and leaving an amazingly smooth surface. I can't compare it to the ripping chain I'm familiar with as I never used that on cedar, but especially for the price--far less than that other ripping chain--I'm quite happy with it.

If you're milling lumber. You need this.
I milled three slabs of walnut with a regular chain and the eight with this one. This chain tracks better, cuts faster and leaves a smoother edge. Take it from one of the most value driven people in the world. This chain is worth every penny.

Archer ripping chain.
The Archer ripping chain meets the 10 degree angle of the cutter and the top plates are somewhat narrower than a crosscut chain. It does not have scoring and clearing cutters. It appears the combination of the angle and relatively more narrow top plate is why this is called a ripping chain.

Ripped Oak with Ease
Very satisfied with this chain. I used it on our Stihl Farmboss 271 with 20" bar. Overall we ripped 40' with an 11" width and 40' with a 6" width. After that amount and it needs sharpened, the last 10' took some back and forth action. The chain leaves a slightly rough cut, but we love it, bc it looks old school "rough" cut. Easily planned out though if you don't like it. If you don't know, be extremely careful if you need to make a cut perpendicular to the grain, it grabs hard, but that's why this is for ripping only, just an FYI. Very satisfied, getting a second one so I can sharpen the first and have a backup.

Good quality chain
My last chain like this broke so I bought another. The first one worked great, but I wore it out till it finally broke.
