Awesome mix for orchids!!!
This product is fantastic! I was very happy with it!I needed some high quality substrate components for my orchids. I keep phalaenopsis, oncidium, paphiopedilum, and many more exotic kinds. Some of them needed repotting this spring. I have epiphytes and terrestrial orchids. Every orchid I have is in a unique mix that is optimized to give each plant the correct amount of air, moisture, and nutrients. Some of my orchids are grown semi-hydro style, potted in solely LECA (in gravel form, Turface). But not all of them do well in that medium, which is where this potting mix comes in.I like to use: bark, moss, lava rock, coconut chips, charcoal, turface, sometimes perlite, all in different combinations. This product provides exactly the amounts of: Bark, Rock, Coconut, and Charcoal that I need for my mixes. All of the pieces are appropriately sized for Phalaenopsis and even Oncidium orchids. If you live in a very humid place, or like to water a lot, or have an epiphytic orchid that needs to dry out fast, this is the only product you'll need for repotting. However, I add other things to make it work in my drier environment.I buy high grade New Zealand sphagnum moss, because most of my orchids need some of it in the mix, and also Turface (gravel LECA), for added water retention and also aeration. In the picture I uploaded this mix is in the center, with other orchid medium around it.

works great for my phalaenopsis orchids
I have a collection of phalaenopsis orchids that came to me at various times in less than stellar condition. All of them are happily growing in this media! When I repotted them, I first soaked them in filtered water for 30 minutes to soften the roots. Then I removed every bit of old media from the roots and cut off any dead ones. I then carefully put the roots into the new pot and gently poured the bark around the roots. I recently repotted a few that I planted in this media two years ago, and none of the bark stuck to the roots. None of the bark had rotted. I soak my orchids once a week, and these bark chips seem to hold just enough moisture and dry out well each week. Oh yes, and several of my orchids have rebloomed after repotting.

Clean, dry orchid potting mix.
Good orchid potting mix - clean and dry. It handles easily when repotting. Store it properly and it will stay fresh. I have bought it twice now and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. It was a good deal for the price.

orchid potting
Lots of shredded bark - which is best for orchids - their roots need to breath. This is a super big bag. So if you have a 1 or 2 orchids to pot or repot - you might want to get the much smaller bag.

Boil it
Read the reviews and followed advice about boiling soil. What I did was bring a pot of water to a boil, turned off the stove, dumped the amount of mix I was going to use, and saw little white bugs run to the top! They were so small and hard to see through the sealed bag. I let the water cool down, and used the soaked bark to repot my orchid pups right after. The size of the bark is perfect! Nice and chunky and not too small. Really love the perlite, charcoal, and bark mix. Stays moist but not soaking wet. A little pricey but worth it I think. I repotted a large orchid, and two small pups in medium sized containers. I still have half the bag of mix left. haven’t seen a mix like this at my local nurseries so will def buy it again when I need to

CHEAPER COULD BE JUST AS GOOD
I sure hope that this is the superior product that its cost proclaims (ahem ...). When all's said and done, 4 quarts (1 gallon) of potting mix is a startlingly small amount (repeat: ahem ...). I therefore am giving this potting mix three stars. I've used others which are far less expensive and my orchids are thriving, blooming happy campers, but I was tempted by all the good star reviews. Please forgive my "preaching to the converted", but the tricks seems to be: 1) watering them every 2 weeks with orchid fertilizer in the water (I use 1/4 teaspoon of Miracle Grow Orchid Food per gallon of water);; 2) allowing them to sit in the watering solution for a full 30 minutes and then draining them well; 3) potting them in a terra cotta pot with holes; and 4) housing them in a spot with lots of indirect light, but little to no direct sunshine. They love the garden window in my bathroom. Change their potting mix every two years.
