The auto-feature identifies parts, when u first understand the polarity of the component such as capacitor, diode...etc.  Auto with correct polarity will detect type of component.  Wrong polarity with auto measurement will measure resistance of the components instead.  FYI, most of electronic components (Capacitor/inductor) does have resistance reading, as well.

Question 2

How low and high can this device measure? I need 0.001uH to 100mH.

The manual says the following: Ranges: 600µH, 6000µH, 60mH, 600mH, 6H, 60H, 200H (Resolution: 0.1µH)The resolution is 0.1µH, therefore it will not be able to measure down to 0.001µH.

Question 3

Is this meter capable of in circuit ESR testing?

In addition to measuring L and C, it can measure both DC and AC R, so it should be able to measure in-circuit ESR. I know that out-of-circuit, it compares favorably with my standalone ESR meter. I have not tried it in-circuit, but I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't do a good job there, too.

Hi, i´ve just bought one but i can´t find where it is the esr value for capacitors.  there is a value that says d or q.  it is that one?

ESR and Q value are not the same.  The LCR-58 measures ESR directly but it's not straight forward, and there's no ESR button or even a screen label that identifies ESR mode.  One can only relate that ESR is a measurement of resistance within the capacitor.  One can download the manual, but I found it to be marginal.  Here's how to measure.  Turn the LCR meter on.  First, set the frequency to 120.  Do this because capacitors have a design frequency in circuit and that frequency is usually specified in the Data Sheet.  Capacitance and other characteristics specified by the manufacturer are measured at that frequency, and it's commonly 120 Hz.  If you're bit at the design frequency, measurement accuracy degrades.  Second, use the LCR/DCR button to set the LCR-58 to capacitance mode.  ("C" mid-screen left and "nF" as units of measure in lower right of screen.  Third, press the D/QR button until the PAL value (Upper right of screen) shows a measurement value of "M Ohms" (ohms symbol).  As noted, ESR is expressed in ohms.  Now when you test a capacitor, capacitance will display on the bottom line and the ESR will display on the top right.  Works like a charm.  Just don't understand why they didn't simply say ESR and make it simple.
Just as a note, I find that that this is my go to meter for quick and dirty.  However the  tweezers are very stiff and it's hard to measure wide or awkwardly placed parts so may not be a good choice if you want only one instrument.  Bought a DE-5000 and have a Fluke 80 series for such uses but they aren't as handy for the right jobs.
