Q: What if a piece is missing? Do you replace it?

I have had puzzles with missing pieces and notified Amazon and they can’t send a missing piece but they will replace the puzzle. Finding the piece you need for the already built puzzle is tricky however it has always fit for me. So if the company is stating otherwise I have not yet found this to be an issue. Amazon is a wonderful company to purchase puzzles from because they back their products to be in working order. I only order products they say free returns so if there is a problem they have no problem fixing it.

Q: Question: i don't understand the a,b,c,d,e,f,g and h layout--does a start at top left? bottom edge left to right? what of 8 squares are these each

The grid is a little confusing, I separated the numbered pieces before I started and found the in between pieces to grid it out. The numbers start on the bottom right with A, and up the right side is to D The bottom left starts at E. And goes up to H. H D G C F B E A The letters will be face upright if you flip the image to the right.

Q: My question should have been can i flip the puzzle over to see if it's done correctly?

No, the puzzle can't be picked up and flipped over without falling apart. You could work the puzzle on top of a thin sheet of plywood or similar material, then place another piece on top of the puzzle to create a puzzle sandwich. The sandwich could be flipped over and back as needed so you could see the back.
