Update from D'Addario 9-17-20: Double ply heads like the G2 have air trap holes (just one) on the under ply so air can escape from the two plies that are married together – not the same as an air vent for a Dry head. If any of your double ply heads don’t show the hole towards an 1” out from the rim, they’re under the collar – just an older way of doing things, now we punch the hole outside of the collar so less air is trapped.OriginalIt's hard to blame Amazon for two drums that had the same pin head perforation in the same place. (see image 1)On a replacement however, the second Evans box was bent (not the Amazon outer box) and this caused a severe warp in the metal ring. Likely from stocking or shipment from the distributor. If you paid new, be sure and get new, undamaged. I have written to Evans (D'Addario) about the two issues via their web site. The "Visit Evans Store" on Amazon takes you to an engine coolant manufacturer. I wrote to Amazon about this as well.Outside of all of this, my other Evans G2 heads appear fine. I replaced the Remo Emperors I had on the kit. I put the Remos as the reso head. Sound incredible have thick heads on both top and bottom vs. thinner heads as the reso head. I used small window/door weather stripping vs Remo Rings or duct tape to deaden the sound

Best heads on the market.
These are perfect for the way I play, I play with authority, but I know technique so I wouldn't call it "hard" (haven't cracked a cymbal in two years) they tune well and quick, perfect for gigging drummers or drummers who want to keep the same heads for a while. They pack punch, and they boom, on the low end, if you tune high and bouncy I would recommend different heads maybe the G2 clear heads. I play with the kit mic'd as well as the put out thte perfect frequencies for our sound engineer. These work perfect for the heavy hitter with authority. The 360 heads in my opinion are the best in the market. I played remo for a long time, when it comes to clear heads for toms, Remo isn't bad. Regardless, when it came time for to choose what company I would permanently buy on a consistent basis for our church it was Evans. We use coated heads and they are far superior to Remo. The EMAD is the best kick drum head I've ever heard, and the G2s are the best coated tom heads I've ever used. And not every drummer likes the same tom sounds and snare sounds, so our drummers can come up and easily get tuned back and forth. Evans=best drum heads on the market.

Evan's coated drum heads are great... get them somewhere else!
5 stars for "Evan's coated drumhead" - 1 for Amazon workers. I have had multiple drum heads AND Paiste cymbals sent through mail in just an amazon bag. Boxes have come in smashed and/or ripped leaving marks and blemishes on the heads. I am going to remain an amazon customer - however, I will go through another business for instrumental items. I hope other drummers can appreciate how it feels to open NEW drum heads or Paiste cymbals with dents, chips, and marks before they ever see the drum kit. These items are not cheap, but that's beside the point.

Warm attack great for low tones
If you are looking for a good warm attack sound, this is your new batter head. I feel like when I use coated heads I don't need to worry about sustain lasting too long, but it's definitely still there. It's a great balance. Especially for 12-13" toms that are easy to let ring for too long. I put these heads on my 13" and 16" toms last week, tuned them up, used ZERO moongel or tape and the sound guy at my 2,000 people event was like, "Dude! Good job! You did your homework!" Because he loved the amount of sustain and tone and everything from them.Ultimately, I think it's a matter of preference. Clear and coated heads have different sounds. Coated is warmer, clear is clearer. That's the best way I can describe them. Two ply is always my go-to for batter heads. You may like the thinner sound of G1s, but it is not my preference. Also - with the switch to the new 360 heads, I have noticed a difference in the ease of tuning and so have a lot of my drummer friends. I've had a couple of guys switch from using Remo and now only use Evans because of the difference.

A very versatile head.
I have been playing these heads on my snare drums for about 5 years now and love them. Out of my 11 snare drums, all but 3 have a coated g2's on them. I started out playing Remo heads in the beginning, and while they do sound good the coating starts coming off immediately. As in after 20 min of playing you already have an area with coating coming off. So I tried Evans and never looked back. I chose the g2 because the two plies are very durable and last a good amount of time even with decently heavy hitting. The coating lasts weeks, and the plies barely ever get stick craters in them. They seat nicely, especially since Evans came out with their Level 360 collar system, which gives you an even seat all the way around the bearing edge. I have coated g2's on brass, African mahogany, steel, maple, and aluminum drums, and they all sound great. They also work just as well on toms, which I have on my gig kit toms. Overall the coated g2 is a great sounding, durable, and affordable head for toms and snare drums.

Nice sound!
I'm a novice to drums. Received a free 18" tom with broken heads, so I thought I'd give these a try. Honestly don't really have much of a clue what I'm doing, but a few searches later, and this head is on the drum, with the bolts tightened a bit. Sounds good so far! No complaints. I read somewhere that resonant heads aren't necessary, so I just decided to try the single batter on top.

Great heads
Bought new kit, purchased 8", 10", 12", 14" snare, 16", and clear 22" G2 floor clear. Don't intend writing a review for each. I love Evans gear, that's a very personal view, not suggesting they are better than others but I like the tone and all that business. Very much cheaper than the high street, perhaps as much as 30%. Had to buy the 8" from the high street because Amazon will only sell you 2 ???, don't need 2 !!!. All personal preference of course, middle of the road heads, do everything very well, recommend
