National Geographic Illustrated Guide to Wildlife: From Your Back Door to the Great Outdoors Hardcover – September 2, 2014

I bought two copies of this - one for each of my nephews - at Christmas. I looked at the book before I wrapped it and wanted to order another copy for myself right away (I haven't yet, but I still might)! Based on the reviews I thought it looked really interesting, and it reminded me of a nature encyclopedia I had when I was a kid. I love the presentation of little third or half-page quantities of information on a subject, in the context of related information (a little bit of fascinating information on a fox, and then more information on another animal). I think as a reader (adult or child) it gives you something to come back to over and over, providing a solid network of information that you can eventually build more on (if you choose to do more digging in additional resources). And the photography is beautiful. My sister (the mother of one of the nephews) said she could hardly put it down, and that her son loves it too (he's 8 years old).

Bought this book for my stepdad who loves animals. He has some dementia and aphasia, but loves to talk about animals. Love the pictures.

Great book to introduce wildlife to children. Great photos.

With each new grandchild, and now great grand children, I gift a National Geographic book on wildlife. My hope is that each of them will enjoy the natural world as much as I do. This volume is full of worthwhile information for children and adults. You can always trust National Geographic to do an excellent job. I recommend this book!

The book covers many species of plants and animals including insects, aquatic life and birds. It is a good basic book but does not cover everything. I was hoping for something with more depth. A good book if you are just searching for information on life your back yard or nearby wooded areas or ponds.

There is so much information on each species and formations and weather conditions, I love it! Super fun to bring this with you camping and go identifying you surrounding recommend to all that have love for the outdoors!

My son loved it he loves animals and whats to learn from them, this book has everything. If there wild or not what they eat if they are carnivorous or not about there habitat etc...
