Valuable Information
Ayurveda for Women is an eye opener. There is a lot of great information in this book. I read some of the other comments about it and I can see where the perception comes from. There is a certain quality of speaking "at" vice speaking "to", especially since the author was not born in the body of the women he seems to be so knowledgeable about. Many years of education about a subject don't really touch the reality of being that subject even for a minute.Ironically, I was sitting outside earlier today thinking about writing reviews when one book in particular on pranayama came to mind. I tried hard to find nice things to say about the book as some of the relevant content most likely went undiscovered because I never gave the book a chance since I was so turned off by the tone of the author... What caused the wall to be put up? Was it my own emotionally mental disruption or the condescending tone and use of language? While reading the book I tried to give the benefit of doubt and talk myself away from the disruptive tone and just see the words as guideposts, but was given a reality check when listening to the accompanying practice CD. Listening to the author speak out loud and make unnecessary comments was definitely undeniable. Whatever the case, I've decided to give the book another go before commenting on it.This book discusses the doshas and how they relate in a woman's life during childhood (Kapha Age), womanhood (Pitta Age) and wise woman (Vata Age). Nature and elements that make up the cycle of life make an appearance as well. I found useful the information on food as medicine, food guidelines for basic constitutional types, and herbal remedies.

This is the perfect book to read to learn the fundamentals of Ayurveda.
This is an amazing read if you're interested in learning the basics of Ayurveda. Robert breaks it down. I highly recommend this book to both men and women. Although it is especially helpful for women as he discusses all the phases in life from childhood to motherhood to old age. Thank you Robert for this amazing book!

Great read
I was not all too familiar with Ayurveda before reading this book, which was recommended to me by my yoga instructor; however I was very pleased with it. Dr Svoboda writes in a clear an poetic way and can truly transmit through his words his love for this ancient art or healing. If in doubt, I would advice to read this book whether you are already familiar with Ayurdeva or not!

Very readable and informatie.
I am familiar with Ayurveda but wanted to brush up on how to incorporate it better into my life and I was drawn to this book because of its focus on women. I saw it reviewed in an online article from the Hindu - one of their top picks for Ayurveda. It has turned into a great boost to me as I read it on the bus each morning. The book contains thorough background on the topic, specific focus on how to apply the principles during the different stages of a female's life (from childhood through to the wise woman years) and I have picked up countless tips which I had not noticed before in other books. At the back is a list of what to eat / not, for each dosha as you would expect. It has given me confidence to start thinking of Ayurveda for my young daughter, to deepen my involvement with it and to feel equipt to help myself through various issues that may come my way. It's a really useful book, I'm very pleased that I ordered it!

A real eye opener
A great addition to my library of books on ayurveda and yoga. Concise and easy to follow including for people who are fairly new to the subject. Would recommended to anyone looking to deepen their understanding of the ancient wisdom of ayurveda. Particularly useful if you've been struggling with female health problems; it offers simple yet thorough explanations (and solutions) for issues that are often shrugged off by conventional school medicine.
