Q: Any suggestions or tips if after the first stroke, the ink isn't coming out?

Not all inks work equally well. Some flow better or less well on these pens. For the most part, I have had very good experiences with them and use them daily. But among my Winsor & Newton inks, I've found that some colors flow better than others. Also, if the pen is brand-new, sometimes it needs to be washed and used a few times before the flow is at optimum. The paper can make a difference. And the amount of ink on the pen is also a factor. I think one just has to try various things and see what works best. Sometimes if you just repeat that first pen-stroke a time or two, it will start flowing. Or turn the pen slightly in your hand and try again. (That last one may be the most important!)

Q: does it come with an ink bottle?

You’ll need to ask the manufacturer regarding and ink bottle. My order was a pen only in a sturdy box. Excellent dip pen.

Q: Can this pen be used left handed?

Yes. One advantage these pens have over more conventional dip pens is that it doesn't matter which side of the nib is up or down. The pen can be rolled in your grip, and it can write at any position along the 360-degree arc.

Q: How well does it work? Is it comparable to traditionallly shaped pens?

It does not have the capability to really make thick and thin lines. However, I find it easier to use simply because it is so easy to clean and I'm not forever trying to unclog the thing. If you are good with a traditional fountain pen, then I think that would be the better option. But if you have trouble with them like I do, then you might want to try this. I know particular inks are recommended for use with these. You might want to check that before you use yours.
