Essential for making many Asian dishes, and just great at adding a bit of red chili flavor to sauces. The bottle arrived without being cracked open or expired.

Sambal Oelek is a delicious chili paste and a great, savory chili flavor and a punchy heat. I use it all the time to add heat and chili flavor to food. I use it as a condiment after cooking so my wife doesn't have to deal with the heat. However, the price on Amazon is actually more expensive for an 8 oz jar than what I found (after my online purchase) at my local gorcery store. Apparently this stuff is main stream enough that the normal grocery store down the street has it! Live and learn. If you like chili pastes and spices you'll probably love this stuff. Just check your grocery store first.

Nothing against the product itself, but the box of items I ordered from Amazon arrived with an exploded jar of Sambal Oelek all over everything. The poor UPS guy's uniform is probably still reeking of Sambal Oelek. It was quite a mess. Fortunatley, a friend of mine happened to be going to a grocer that carries Sambal Oelek and picked me up a replacement as I was able to wipe off the chili sauce from what else arrived in my box, but somebody didn't pack my order very well.
