I have been using these for years for many things. Not for what they were created for as I think that would be seriously cruel, and the people who claim its painless put one or two on your finger & tell yourself that again, then think about how painful it might be on an animal. Any way, they are in fact strong, very durable, and they have a pretty long life. They don't do well in oils, but they seam to be ok with water for long periods of time. What ever you do, do not stretch these with your fingers as you will damage the nerves in your fingers over time. So its worth buying a good set of tools to stretch them onto whatever your using them for.
