Ideal for hamsters
Most hamster cages on the market and sold online or in pet shops are in no way suitable for hamsters, and don't come anywhere near the minimum size for hamsters (100cm x 50cm). Although often advertised for rabbits and guines pigs (it's not big enough for them) this is great for hamsters. It fulfils the minimum size (although bigger is always better), the bar spacing on the top is small enough to prevent escapes for all sizes of hamster (from Roborovski to Syrian), and the lack of bars on the sides means you can build up the substrate to allow for digging (15cm is the minimum depth required - ideally much deeper). It's just about tall enough to contain a 30cm wheel (the correct size for a Syrian), and there's room for lots of enrichment, different substrates, a multi-chamber hide etc. It's also a good price for what it is, and because it's light, it's easier to move around and clean. I have two of these for my rescue hamsters, one containing a Syrian, and the other containing a Russian dwarf. I also have a large glass tank containing a Russian dwarf, which is better in terms of allowing more depth for digging, but is impossible to move and much harder to clean. And I have a ZooZone 2, which is okay size-wise, but not as user friendly - it's clunkier, more noisy to open etc (not good for the resident) and the top has to be meshed as the bars are too widely spaced (I use it as an emergency/hospital cage). On balance, of all the enclosures I have used, this Ferplast Maxi Multi Duna is the best, and the most practical to use. The only downsides are that it would be good if it was somewhat taller, to allow for deeper substrate; and if you have a hamster that particularly loves to chew, they have been known to chew their way out (although this hasn't happened with mine). Also you need to protect any unused water bottle holes (there are two) as they allow a starting point for chewing, and some hamsters will immediately start chewing their way out; and you have to find a way to suspend the water bottle on the outside (I use small sticky hooks from B&Q). I would still recommend this enclosure though, as the best-sized, good-quality and practical enclosure for a happier hamster on the market, unless you start constructing your own custom-made enclosure or tank. If you care about your hamster's quality of life, please ditch all the awful, inhumane cages you'll find in any pet store and get this instead. (NB Plastic enclosures are not suitable for gerbils. I'm not sure about mice - please check with mouse experts!).

Really, really pleased!
I bought this cage as I have a young syrian Hamster who needs a better cage. The biggest cage I could find in the store for her when I got her 2 weeks ago was a single level plastic 55 x 38 x 26cm :/ which is too small and she is a growing girl. Unable to find anything suitable in the shops,I summoned up the power of the internet and decided to take a chance with this one as it was 71 x 46 x 31.5 cm- a whole lot better than her starter home and it is much closer to what the RSPCA suggests. I was worried that my cage would arrive damaged as many others have experienced but I was lucky and it was fine. It arrived very quickly, within the stated time and it was very simple to put together on my own. Larger is even better if you can afford it, but this one can be made into a happy home just the same. With a bit of care I think it can last a while. I would say it's escape proof as it has no bars on the side that can be chewed through and the wire lid at the top is spaced at about 6mm apart. Little Miss is potty trained and she keeps herself very clean so I believe the plastic base won't absorb any hammy wee so that helps keep things tidy and will prolong the use of the cage. It's just about tall enough for an 11inch wheel so your hammy will run more safely and not have to bend their back. There's a small space on the side for a water bottle to be attached from the outside too. It's not garish like those cramped tiny modular cages, floor space is more important and hammies can get stuck in those small tubes, not to mention if they wee or hoard food in the tubes, and falls from tall multi-level cages can hurt them. This cage is simple and extremely practical. I will be able to get in there easily to sort out her potty every day and do a general inspection of things or simply hand her some yummy treats whenever she is awake (she has no qualms about taking snacks from us!).She will be moving in there tonight when she wakes up, I will just have to swap all her things over and transplant her nest(for familiar smells) while she is out in her playpen. If you have one or two dwarves you might be able to fit two of everything in there to break up any bullying as their accessories are much smaller than what syrians need, if you have more than 2 dwarves you may need something bigger so they can all have space and not be too territorial. I am extremely happy with this cage and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good, practical cage for their hammy!

Missing clips :(
Bought for my hamster for her surgery recovery, it arrived loosely packed and is missing the clasps in order to close the cage securely. All that's arrived is the lid, the bars for the top, and the base. Will now have to be finding the clips elsewhere in order to use this product properly before my hamster has her surgery. Disappointed, but the cage is a good size.
