Fun Art Tool
A fun art tool to play with. I had tried one at a workshop years ago and finally decided to get one of my own. There are so many options to use this item. Lots of on-line videos with techniques and great ideas.

You Get What You Pay For...
There's a really old expression: "You Get What You Pay For." I am an avid thrift shopper. I've done it for years, and had very good success with it. And....enter online sites where you can get cheaper items, in bountiful quantities.I tried a cheaper gel plate. And I gave it a true try, with a variety of papers and paints. In that process, I checked in with different content creators who had success in what I was trying to do, looking for advice and instruction. Often: they used this brand of gel plate. And I have to say, right out of the clamshell case: This product was a vast improvement. It was nearly 4 times the price and yes, I can say it was 4 times the value. I used the same paints, same papers and it worked at LEAST 4 times better.I'd like to say it cleaned up well, but my initial test with it needed no clean up, as using different papers required no clean up - a startling difference from the other plate I tried. I mean - there wasn't a ton of paint and (this is a big thing) stuck on paper left behind. Maybe a tiny bit of paint on one edge, but really. It was a pronounced difference. So, from this point of view, I give it a huge thumbs up, and will continue with it. If something goes sideways that I really think I need to report, I will.Size wise, as a new printer, this seemed a good starting point. The tiny ones felt, well, too small. And the large ones were just too expensive for a beginning point for me. To quote goldilocks: This one was just right. :)

BEWARE!. there are rules
overall this is an awesome product. I learned how to use them using youtube videos. but here is what they do not tell you and these are very important points. if you don't know these points you will ruin the plate completely your first time out.#1 do not lay the Gelli plate over any kind of graphite, this includes line drawings. I placed a pencil drawing to use as a guide and the plate absorbed the graphite completely (see photo). I mean the entire drawing imprinted on the plate and it can not be cleaned (that drawing is on the gel plate not the paper and its there for good. I used soap and water with a strong cloth and it did nothing but wear away the glossy surface making it unsalvageable.. ruined.#2 acrylics dry very very fast when applied. I mean instantly and the surface is impossible to work on. none of the videos I watched recommended a retardant which I later found is the key. Direct acrylic will dry fast and the thinner the layer (recommended) the faster it will dry. you watch the videos but they aren't telling you this key point.#3 if you try to use say a soft tool to "write" into the dry acrylic it will scratch the surface. it skips over the painting perforates the gel plate. I thought that if i worked over the dry acrylic paint with a spritz of water it would loosen the dry paint. it only makes it worse and printing to paper results in an ugly print.#4 please use acrylic water based printing inks. they have a much longer standing time. acrylic paint, all of them only work with a retardant. and a lot of it too.otherwise the plates are quite nice. I just purchased my third one as the first two were ruined beyond salvaging. my fault but I know better now.

I love these!
Works exactly as described, easy to use but do your research, great price, size is great for card making, not as easy to clean but worth it!
