Great exercises for teens!
I loved this book. It has so many great exercises that really get teens thinking and exploring their emotions. My child struggles in this area and I really think that many of these exercises will have a very positive effect for her.The book is also divided by grade which is very smart. There are exercises for each grade of high school. They can go through however they choose. They can wait until they are in that grade or go through and do them all and then look back on their answers and redo as they actually get to that stage. So much they can do with it.I highly recommend for anyone with a teenager!!

Great Resource with a Few Hiccups
The activities in this book are thoughtful and well-organized by grade level, which makes it easy to tailor them to where my teen is at. It’s practical and has definitely sparked some meaningful conversations. My only issue is that some concepts could use a bit more explanation, especially for those of us new to the material.

Helpful book for teens
This book is a great tool for helping teens navigate emotions, friendships, and decision-making. The activities are practical and easy to follow, making social-emotional learning feel less like a lesson and more like real-life skills they can actually use. It’s structured well, and I appreciate how it encourages self-reflection while still keeping things engaging. Definitely a helpful resource for parents and teachers!

Great insights on a concept many do not understand.
The High School Social Emotional Learning Workbook is a complete guide that does a great job introducing students to social emotional learning (SEL). This provides a huge level of practical and inclusive tasks that suit the majority of learning styles and guarantee learners can access worthwhile emotional and communal progress. Well suited for its intended audience, the activities are appropriate in terms of age level and they stress real-world application, making the material more accessible to students. Its clear instructions and structured layout will highly benefit educators as it is easy to integrate into lesson plans. However, not all subjects would lend themselves well to this level of coding, and some topics (like conflict resolution or cultural awareness) may require further depth in order to serve the needs of older students or address more complex issues. Also some activities although most are interesting and different, a few became repetitive and the focus on group work has taken away from some of the individual reflection. Some exercises may also be too time consuming for teachers with tight schedules, and teachers may need additional resources for a more comprehensive approach. These refinements aside, the workbook really is a great resource for high school students to enhance their emotional intelligence and social skills, as another building block on the path to SEL education!

A great interactive workbook to utilize throughout ALL the high-school years!
As a home-school parent of a teenager, I have come to appreciate the unique challenges that come with teaching important life skills alongside academic subjects. I've started using the "Social Emotional Learning Workbook for High School" over the last few years, and I must say, it is another great book put out by the wonderful Richard Bass. One aspect I always value is how the chapters are separated based on grade levels. This was the same for his middle school book as well. This thoughtful organization means that we can easily pull from a variety of resources tailored to my child's current stage. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I can focus on her specific needs and ensure that throughout the years from ninth grade to twelfth grade, the activities we are working on within the book are relevant to the stage of life she is in. It allows us to grow together through the high school years without the need of multiple books or feeling like we're starting from scratch each time we advance to a new grade. While many scenarios discussed in the book are drawn from public school experiences, we’ve found a refreshing way to adapt them to our homeschooling situation. My teenager and I often take the public school examples and reshape them through our lens. This has opened up wonderful discussions, enhancing her critical thinking skills as we take the examples from the book and find ways that we can relate within our own lives. The book's approach feels less like academic instruction and more like engaging conversations that help her explore and understand her feelings. One of the standout features of Richard Bass's workbooks is that they have an interactive nature. The activities already incorporated in the book makes lesson planning so much simpler for me. I love having all of our educational content in one place, with each activity providing fresh methods to connect emotionally and socially. My teen truly enjoys writing about her own experiences, and I can see her developing into a thoughtful, well-rounded individual right before my eyes. It's also remarkable how the workbook encourages self-awareness and accountability. These aren’t just abstract concepts; they have real applications in our daily lives. As we work through themes like empathy, communication, and decision-making, I can see her confidence and understanding grow, which is incredibly gratifying as a parent. All in all, the "Social Emotional Learning Workbook for High School" enhances our homeschooling experience. It offers not just lessons and activities but opens doors for deeper connections and understanding between my teen and me, preparing her for life beyond graduation. If you're looking for a resource that marries academic engagement with emotional intelligence, this workbook is worth considering!.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
