Finally, heartburn relief!! Buy the book!
I’ve been suffering from heartburn pretty intensely for the last year. Most of my adult life I’ve been predisposed to heartburn but it was always manageable up until last year. I took a long round of antibiotics as well as ibuprofen etc for an extended period of time. My gut was shot and I was miserable. Enter PPIs which offered some relief but after 3 months the heartburn was worse than ever. My doctor ran all the tests and prescribed PPI 2x a day. I was nauseous and miserable barely able to find foods that worked for me. Finally, I found this book. I took my time getting started and planned to begin when I knew I had an open month with no serious social commitments. I pre bought the pantry staples listed in the book. I planned each weeks snacks and meals on a calendar and ordered my groceries. I would double and even triple recipes, eating the same lunch or dinner for multiple days. I found the recipes easy to follow, simple and really tasty. Some of my favorites for ease and meal prepping were the chia pudding, bone broth, burgers, meatballs, salmon and meatloafs. I kept my snacks simple, hard boiled eggs, banana, seeds/nuts etc. I’m now one month in and I feel so much better. I don’t have heartburn, zero bloating and I’ve lost 5 lbs without ever being hungry. I am about to enter the reintroduction phase and I feel excited and empowered. I know now it’s possible to live without heartburn and I feel educated enough that even if I have a trigger food etc that I’ll be able to work around it in the future. This book is amazing and buy it now!

AMAZING BOOK!
I never write reviews but I had to write one for this book. The diet really works if you really follow it! I have suffered with severe DAILY coughing attacks & bloating with hoarseness and nothing I try ever works until I started following the advice & recipes in this book. The recipes are simple & tasty & I don’t feel like I’m on a “diet” which is great. The book explains things easily as well so you’re not scratching your head trying to understand it! I have a long journey ahead of me since my symptoms are so severe but I am confident that this book will change my life. I am currently in the 2nd week of the “heal” plan and I have noticed lots of improvements. I am grateful that this book was published! I really felt like I wasn’t getting any answers going to GI doctors telling me “everything looks great” and “there’s “some” inflammation but keep taking acid reducers…”which was making things worse, not better. 😒 I hope this review helps/inspires others to try it out who are also suffering!

Unfortunately, This Works:)
I've had a PH impedance study and an esophageal manometry done so there's no more mystery or fooling myself, I am an "acid reflux machine" as my G.I. doctor told me. Naturally, he had little dietary advice (except take Zantac after eating pizza... thanks), and he gave me a lifetime prescription to pantoprazole (a proton pump inhibitor, or "P.P.I." like Prilosec). I couldn't tolerate the side effects and the early research on these drugs is not to be taken lightly - unless your GERD is life threatening and it's a "risk/reward" equation - i.e. your endoscopy procedure shows a risk of esophageal cancer. Luckily, my endoscopy was clear so I stopped the pantoprazole and bought this book.Nour Zibdeh takes no prisoners with this diet so you better get your big boy (or big girl) pants on and be prepared to go cold turkey on alcohol, sugar, chocolate, caffeine, gluten, and of course citrus and tomatoes. I couldn't sleep more than a few hours in a row so I was desperate and willing. This is NOT the old fashioned diet of simply avoiding high acid foods. And it's more extensive than the Fast Track Diet (which is worth trying since you can drink on that one!). It's much more than that: combining new theories of avoiding fermentable foods and gluten (FODMAPS) with the more traditional approach of eliminating things like wine & chocolatre and other things that make life after 50 worth living...The writing is clear, to the point and efficient. I was is no mood to read some 500 page diatribe. The color coding is appreciated as well. My only criticism is the recipes which seem to be designed for people that don't cook (which is most people these days so I'm the odd man out here). I could use a bit more complexity and less sweet and more salt. But there is a chart of what to eliminate and what to eat at every stage so you can improvise. Very easy to reference.I want to schedule an appointment with my G.I. Doc and give him this book and tell him he's fired! Thank you Nour.

Exactly the book I was looking for!
This book is exactly what I was looking for!I read 3 books from the library prior to this and got information about the Reflux condition I was diagnosed with. This book didn't dumb it down, but explained it in a way that really made sense, why lifestyle changes mattered, and even went into more detail of the digestive system than some other books I read written by MD's. It is very practical and easy to read.I had been given a paper from my doctor on what not to eat, but was struggling with what to eat now, especially since the symptoms weren't improving and other digestive symptoms were starting. This book answered those questions perfectly! The format is simple, organized and uncluttered and provides plentiful guidance to help me know what is best to eat (and why some foods are not) while healing my esophagus.Other books I read offered food plans that we're unrealistic or had recipes I would never make, either because I don't have the time to devote to it or because I just don't cook meals like that. This book offers simple recipies people like me actually make in real life. But best of all, it has the guidance I was really looking for to eat well and heal my esophagus. I'm very grateful for this book.
