Great reference book, shows everywhere in Thailand and handy to carry, even though I'm back from Thailand for now I'll always read through to give me information of places to visit on my next trip..Good purchase.

this was a gift for some very nice relations going to Thailand for a holiday, they were very pleased with it.

Lonely planet have been slimming down all their guide books for a few years. There are some losses but on the other hand, they weigh less, are no longer packed with unreliable hotel and restaurant listing which can more successfully be found on the internet. Similarly whilst there is some travel information, it is not as detailed as what you can find on easily accessible electronic sites. What i do llke is the emphasis on key places and their hinterlands which makes initial plans of trips very useful. Last year I used the Chile one which really helped me focus on the key areas. I acquired this Thai one by chance in the airport on the way to bangkok. I had only booked my flight 2 days before and i had used an old guide to plan my trip. But I looked at the new one and realised it listed places in the north that i had not come across before. So I bought it, read it on the plane and replanned my trip successfully. I am flying to Mumbai in 2 days and have used the south Indian one to plan a 6 week trip through Maharashtra, Karnataka and north Kerala. I am glad it is not a 1000 pages and I can carry it easily whilst finding specific info I need on hotel booking apps, google maps and on bus company websites and the Indian railway booking website. So yes it is thinner but provides a very useful birds eye view

Easy to understand

I have relied on lonely planet guide books for the last 30 years. I was extremely disappointed with this book. There is no detail. I ended up using my last Thailand money planet.Impossible to properly plan a trip with this book - it’s a brochure not a travel guide - no town maps, details about connections, even accommodation reviews. Rubbish! I hope this isn’t how the Loney Planet Guides are going!

Very comprehensive

Contains a lot of very useful and interesting information. It is presented in an easy to use and logical order.
