Spot on for starters
I've been playing the guitar for 20 years but have always thought it's a bit awkward to carry about with you. Imagine my joy and relief when Eddie Vedder made it acceptable for rockers all over the world to pick up a much smaller, relatively simple instrument such as the Uke!I checked the reviews and settled on the tenor (less fiddley but not just like playing the top four strings of a guitar) and then checked out the different makes and brands. For a starter Uke the KA-T is pretty spot on - Kala get a bit of internet stick, mass produced, low budget instruments, but don't let that put you off.I was worried that it would sound a bit crap but it's got a decent tone to it and projects its sound well. I'm sure if i keep on playing ukes I'll treat myself to one that is worth thousands of pounds eventually (although I've been saying that about guitars for two decades as well...) but until then this is much better than I expected. So, to conclude, the 5 stars aren't for the quality of the uke in relation to all the ukes available - they simply relate to how good it is for a proper novice. If you can drop £80 and you fancy jumping on the big uke band wagon, I imagine you could do much, much worse than this!

Quick and efficient delivery. Sound etc all very good, deserves the 5 star rating!
I bought this for my son (27 years old) He totally loves it, he says the sound is perfect, everything is perfect. I live in Germany and this was ordered and delivered in the UK. Very quick and efficient service. 5 stars all round! Thank you.

Well constructed with perfect intonation
This a very musical instrument. What stands out is the stability of the tuning and intonation which, combined with the larger fretboard typical of a tenor, allows you much more expression. You can play with vibrato and pick out melodies and chords. The instrument is very light but well constructed: no buzzing or sharp frets. It's my first tenor so hard to compare with other tenors: I found the sound brighter, clearer and more melodic than my solid mahogany soprano, but also with more pronounced middle tones. These mellowed a bit as the strings played in. Hard to fault the quality and musicality of the instrument for the price.

Fantastic Uke
My first Ukulele was a dirt cheap soprano from Amazon. It was 'OK' though build quality was poor and it lacked warmth in the sound. Though totally acceptable for the price point of course. I decided to spend a little more and get a 'Kala' and in the Tenor Ukulele size range. I absolutely love this Uke, it comes pre-stringed with Aquila nylgut strings which sound phenomenal with the body of the Kala KA-T.Very good build quality for the price! Sounds excellent, looks stunning.Don't hesitate, you won't be disappointed. Happing strumming!

Ok sound
After reading rave reviews about this instrument I decided to buy one for a relative as a birthday present. I am no expert, and have only been playing casually for six months or so, but I have to say that I was a little disappointed. I, myself have a Kauai tenor uke which, for roughly the same money, sounds a whole lot more expensive. The Kala, in comparison, seems a little (for want of a better word) 'twangy'. The workmanship, albeit tidy, is nothing to marvel over. The white trim is nice but I was surprised at how thin the soundboard was. My son, who plays seriously, also remarked on the sound quality; he agreed that the Kauai generally had a nicer tone. As an aside, If you're looking for something a bit different, consider the Kanile'a Islander Soprano, or Tenor. They have a simple, understated elegance that is a delight to behold. My lad plays the soprano - its the sweetest uke I've ever listened to - the kind of sound that sets the hairs on the back of your neck tingling. Starting at £99, its well worth the money.

Fantastic
I started playing ukulele in July 2013 starting with this one. Now, nearly a year on and having bought 3 more ukes I still use this one for most of my playing. Intonation is spot on, the action is just right and the sound is great considering that it's only laminated mahogany. I cannot stress how great this instrument is, you would have to spend a lot of money to top it.

A really wonderful uke with a lovely tone but don't buy it ...
A really wonderful uke with a lovely tone but don't buy it as a starter as the string pressure is much higher on a tenor than a concert or soprano. I love its sound but I would have been wiser to have bought a concert kala rather than my initial soprano.
