Will this work with a PC/Mac?

Yes, it can. But please kindly note that the PC/Mac just can be a input device to connect to our converter, please check if your pc or mac has the HDMI output interface, if yes, it can work.

I see it works with game systems and firesticks. Will it work with a cable box?

jusst as long as your cable box has a HDMI port it will work

Tv only has input (no output) options. it has an hdmi connection. will the box connect tv hdmi to box input & then box optical to sound bar optical?

If the source device you used is 4K@60hz (HDMI 2.0 and HDCP2.2), please set the resolution of your input device to 1080p@60hz or 720P@60Hz to try.

Does this require power? what if there isn't a usb connection near by?

Plugging it in with hdmi cable turned to power on for me. I have it hooked up to my PS3 and had to use the usb plug in order to get the images to show up on my tv. I plugged the usb where the remote connects and had to run an hdmi from ps3 to box and one from the box to the tv. I am using it to plug in my sound bar. Because my tv doesn't have an optical cord connection. I hope this helps.
