are there any advantages in using this flat base version over the ball based version ( MVH 500A ) ?

Does this come with the screw needed to attach the camera to the head? thanks

Is this a smooth pan as when I pan it unlocks on the tripod screw head, tilt is fine and smooth. Am I missing something
