Bought this for one specific job to plane a door edge did it easy looking for another job money well spent

Great - did the job for me - needed to shave some wood from an old wood garage door - this did the trick

I bought mine as it was recommended by the author of my book on how to build a boat at home, but I found this model too light - the metal frame is well worth the extra cost. Otherwise the surform is a great tool.

Within two minutes of unpacking this plane, I had done exactly what I wanted to do which was shave a couple of millimetres off the bottom vertical side of a door that kept catching. I left the door on its hinges which is probably what contributed to the speedy finish but it didn't cause me any problems in doing so.Because the file isn't smooth (not sure whether it's supposed to be for the job it does), I initially felt a bit unsure as I was dragging it down the door, but it only took about 10 drags down of the plane to do the job. It left the side of the door smooth so I only need to touch up with paint and job done. And to think I was going to engage the services of a handyperson/carpenter to do this!

Perfect for trimming down that ill fitting door or leveling two surfaces. Quality excellent and thoughtfully designed. Sole problem being the occasional build up of shavings in the body causing mass amounts to be released when tipped.

sturdy and well built - I used this to take 5mm of kitchen work top to fit in a new hob, didnt take too long. Also used it to take a ridge off my bathroom floor where two boards met - again did the job well - lino went down smoothly and all good
